ELASTIC MATERIALS WITH TWO PREFERRED STATES

The Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics, 1991
Summary: A mathematical model of an elastic material with two preferred, stress- free states is formulated by taking the strain-energy function to be piecewise quadratic. The symmetries of the material and the preferred states are arbitrary. The apparent energy density, which is the quasiconvexification of the two-well potential, is computed.

Consumer Preferences for Less Packaging: A Stated Preference Study [PDF]

open access: possible, 2011
This study estimates the willingness-to-pay (WTP) for packaging with less material by using contingent valuation. We found that people who care about the environmental friendliness of a product, who have a positive perception of less packaging, and who live in a municipality implementing unit-based pricing of waste have a higher WTP.
