“It's Just Good Science”: A Qualitative Study Exploring Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Canadian Arthritis Research

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Despite knowledge that health outcomes vary according to patient characteristics, identity, and geography, including underrepresented populations in arthritis research remains a challenge. We conducted interviews to explore how researchers in arthritis have used equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles to inform their research ...

Self-organization, detailed balance, and stress-structure correlations in 2D granular dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We argue that a number of recent experimental and numerical observations point to an ongoing cooperative stress-structure self-organisation (SO) in quasi-static granular dynamics. These observations include: a) detail-insensitive collapses of certain quantities; b) correlations between stress and structure and evidence of entropy-stability competition ...

Effectiveness of a Telephone‐Delivered Walk With Ease Program on Arthritis‐Related Symptoms, Function, and Activity: A Randomized Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Walk With Ease (WWE) is a six‐week arthritis‐appropriate evidence‐based physical activity program traditionally offered in a face‐to‐face format. Because many populations encounter participation barriers to in‐person programs, WWE was modified for telephone delivery (WWE‐T).

Effect of Hip Abductor Muscle Fatigue on Static and Dynamic Balance in Elderly Women

open access: yesSālmand, 2016
Objectives: Postural control is the act of maintaining and restoring a better state of balance and proper biomechanics structure in limbs and different parts of the body. Such proper structure exists in two forms namely static and dynamic. Fatigue is one

Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves using machine learning and dynamic mode decomposition

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Summary Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves is investigated through feedforward and recurrent neural networks as well as dynamic mode decomposition. The goal is to predict future ship motion variables based on past data collected on the field, using equation‐free approaches.
