Static balance in children with developmental coordination disorder
Human Movement Science, 2008The purpose of this study was to compare the postural sway profiles of 9/10-year-old children with developmental coordination disorder and balance problems (DCD-BP, n=64) with those of non-DCD children (n=71). We measured center of pressure excursions in conditions with and without vision for 30s while standing still on the dominant leg, the non ...

Effects of Local and General Fatigue on Static Balance
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1973A static balance test was given to 120 college men and women before and after 2 exercise bouts. In one type of exercise heel raises were used to induce local muscular fatigue. Squat thrusts were employed as the general body fatiguing exercise. Both general body-fatigue exercise and local-fatigue exercise impaired static balance performance.

Static standing balance in adolescents with Down syndrome
Research in Developmental Disabilities, 2012To analyse static-standing-balance of adolescents with Down syndrome (DS).Thirty-two adolescents with DS aged 10-19 years (DSG); 33 adolescents, age/sex-matched, without DS (CG). Static-standing-balance under four conditions (C1: open-eyes/fixed-foot-support; C2: closed-eyes/fixed-foot-support; C3: open-eyes/compliant-foot-support; closed-eyes ...

Static controllers for magnetic suspensionand balance systems
IEE Proceedings - Control Theory and Applications, 1996For a test aircraft in a wind tunnel with magnetic suspension and balance systems, a decoupling control configuration is proposed. Using the input–output decoupling technique the flight variables are controlled independently at all frequencies and for all aerodynamic and electromagnetic conditions. The decoupling controllers are static. The performance

Static balance norms in children.
Physiotherapy research international : the journal for researchers and clinicians in physical therapy, 2014The ability to sustain single leg stance and tandem stance is often used to determine the balance abilities of children, particularly after ankle or foot injury. The aim of this study was to assess performance norms on timed static balance tests in children aged 4 to 15 years.Cross-sectional studyChildren from schools across the Republic of Ireland (n =

Assessment of static balance in children.
The Journal of sports medicine and physical fitness, 1992The ability in maintaining body balance of 6-, 8-, and 10-year-old children performing three balance tests on a force platform was studied. Thirty adult subjects served as a reference group. The mean radius (MR) of the posturogram and the mean speed (MS) of the center of foot pressure (COP) were used as the measuring parameters.

A Note on the Role of Peripheral Vision in Static Balancing
Ergonomics, 1969The ability to balance statically using minimal visual cues was investigated experimentally. It was found that sighted levels of proficiency wore not consistently achiovod in tho absence of background structure.
