Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Geometry of static balancing during posture transition

open access: yes, 2011
The interaction between the digital human model (DHM) and environment typically occurs in two distinct modes; one, when the DHM maintains contacts with the environment using its self weight, wherein associated reaction forces at the interface due to ...

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

The Unbalanced Control Research of Fractional-Order Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel STATCOM

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
Recent research on fractional-order cascaded H-bridge multilevel static compensator (FCHM-STATCOM) indicates that it has better performance than the traditional cascaded H-bridge multilevel static compensator (CHM-STATCOM).

The Paradox of Risk Balancing: Do Risk-reducing Policies Lead to More Risk for Farmers?

open access: yes
The study presents stochastic optimal control/dynamic programming (SOC/DP) to derive the optimal debt level and consumption in farm models concerning two sources of uncertainty: the return on assets and interest rate.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

Static Balancing of Single Loop Reconfigurable Mechanisms

open access: yes, 2016
Reconfigurable mechanisms are a relatively recent contribution to the field of mechanism design and authors have only just been producing real-life applications of these mechanisms. This paper builds on the application of two categories of reconfigurable

A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly
