Spatial Static Gravity Balancing With Ideal Springs [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 2: 28th Biennial Mechanisms and Robotics Conference, Parts A and B, 2004
This paper discusses mechanisms that allow for perfect static balancing of rotations about a fixed spherical joint by means of ideal springs. Using a potential energy consideration, balancing conditions of a spatial three-spring balancer will be derived.

Phase-free static balancing for high-speed overhanging rotors

open access: yesMaterials Today: Proceedings, 2022
In this paper static balancing procedures for a machine with an eccentrically arranged overhanging rotor are discussed. The aim is a heuristic method for static balancing of such an overhanging rotor based on conventional acceleration measurements ...

Static balancing behaviour of the mandible

European Journal of Oral Sciences, 2015
The objective of this study was to investigate the mechanisms of physiological control of the craniomandibular system during force‐controlled biting: in intercuspation, restricted by predetermined anatomic–geometrical conditions [i.e. biting in intercuspation (BIC)]; and on a hydrostatic system [i.e.

Statically balanced brakes

Precision Engineering, 2016
Abstract Conventional brakes require a powerful actuator, leading to large, heavy and in most cases energy consuming brakes. This paper introduces a fundamentally different brake concept called statically balanced brakes (SBBs). SBBs do not require any actuation force to maintain a braking torque and only have to move a small mass to vary that torque.

The Role of Peripheral Vision in Static Balancing

Ergonomics, 1967
Abstract A study was made to determine the role of peripheral vision in static balancing. Three groups of subjects were tested under sighted and blindfold conditions, and also under a minimal cues condition. One of these groups was trained in the use of peripheral vision and after five days achieved sighted competence under the minimal cues condition ...

A static workload balance scheduling algorithm

Proceedings. International Conference on Parallel Processing Workshop, 2003
This article studies a static scheduling method based on workload balancing. An equation is presented for the case when the workload is equally distributed onto all the processors. An efficient load balance scheduling algorithm is developed assuming that the workload has certain properties.

Static balancing of planar parallel manipulators

Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2002
In this paper, the static balancing of planar parallel manipulators is addressed. Static balancing is defined here as the set of conditions on manipulator dimensional and inertial parameters which, when satisfied, ensure that the weight of the links does not produce any force (or torque) at the actuators for any configuration of the manipulator, under ...

Non-dimensional approach for static balancing of rotational flexures

open access: yesMechanism and Machine Theory, 2015
This work presents a nondimensional method for statically balancing flexural hinges, including those with stiffness that varies with load. Using a set of non-dimensional parameters, it is shown that one can quickly design a balancing mechanism for an ...
