An analytical solution for a partially wetting puddle and the location of the static contact angle

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2010
A model is formulated for a static puddle on a horizontal substrate taking account of capillarity, gravity and disjoining pressure arising from molecular interactions. There are three regions of interest--the molecular, transition and capillary regions with characteristic film thickness, hm, ht and hc.

Characterization of the Intrinsic Water Wettability of Graphite Using Contact Angle Measurements: Effect of Defects on Static and Dynamic Contact Angles

Langmuir, 2017
Elucidating the intrinsic water wettability of the graphitic surface has increasingly attracted research interests, triggered by the recent finding that the well-established hydrophobicity of graphitic surfaces actually results from airborne hydrocarbon contamination.

Static contact angle hysteresis on smooth, homogeneous solid substrates

Colloid and Polymer Science, 2012
A theory of contact angle hysteresis on smooth, homogeneous solid substrates is developed in terms of shape of disjoining/conjoining pressure isotherm and quasi-equilibrium phenomena. It is shown that all contact angles, θ, in the range θ r

A Static Contact Angle Algorithm for Silicone Rubber Aging Experiments

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2013
To improve the accuracy of the static contact angle measurement in the silicone rubber aging experiments, a high accurate contact angle algorithm in combination with the circle fitting algorithm and ellipse fitting algorithm is proposed. The influence of the water drop volume and noise on the calculation accuracies of the two algorithms are analyzed ...

A high accurate static contact angle algorithm based on Hough transformation

Measurement: Journal of the International Measurement Confederation, 2014
Abstract The static contact angle for blurry drop images is more intricate to obtain. To improve the accuracy of the Hough transformation for the static contact angle calculation, the water drop images with different volumes are generated by the Laplace equation, and the influence of the volume on the accuracy of the Hough transformation is analyzed.

Electrically Mediated Static Contact Angle and Hysteresis of Polyelectrolyte Solutions

Langmuir, 2023
Manipulating a droplet by electrowetting-on-dielectric (EWOD) is vital in various fields ranging from industrial applications to life sciences. As of now, EWOD research has focused primarily on aqueous electrolytes and ionic liquids. This paper investigates the electrowetting behavior of weak polyelectrolyte solutions containing poly(acrylic acid) (PAA)

Drop Impact on Soft Surfaces: Beyond the Static Contact Angles

Langmuir, 2009
The wettability of cross-linked poly(dimethylsiloxane) elastomer films and of octadecyltrichlorosilane self-assembled monolayers with water has been measured and compared using various methods. Contact angle hysteresis values were compared with values reported in the literature.

The effects of static contact angles on standing waves

Physics of Fluids A: Fluid Dynamics, 1992
Damping rates and natural frequencies of the fundamental axisymmetric mode in circular cylinders were measured when the contact angle between the water and the side walls was acute, obtuse, and about π/2. Damping rates decreased with increasing contact angle; natural frequencies increased with increasing contact angle.

Static and dynamic contact angles of water on photoresist

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology B: Microelectronics and Nanometer Structures Processing, Measurement, and Phenomena, 2005
Fluid management issues in an immersion lithography system include the retention of the liquid (i.e., prevention of residual liquid on the wafer) and the possible entrainment of gas bubbles within the immersion fluid. Three key parameters strongly influence the control of fluid within the lens gap: the static liquid/resist contact angle, the contact ...
