Static and Dynamic Contact Angles of Water on Polymeric Surfaces

Langmuir, 1997
Static contact angle and dynamic (advancing and receding) contact angles of water on polymeric surfaces were investigated using microscope cover glasses coated with various plasma polymers of trimethylsilane and oxygen. By variation of the mole fraction of the TMS/oxygen mixture, glass surfaces having varying degrees of wettability were prepared.

How pinning and contact angle hysteresis govern quasi-static liquid drop transfer

Soft Matter, 2016
This paper presents both experimental and numerical simulations of liquid transfer between two solid surfaces with contact angle hysteresis (CAH). Systematic studies on the role of the advancing contact angle (θa), receding contact angle (θr) and CAH in determining the transfer ratio (volume of the liquid transferred onto the acceptor surface over the ...

Effect of Camera Parallax Angle on the Accuracy of Static Contact Angle Measurements

Langmuir
Measuring the contact angle at the solid/liquid/vapor triple point in sessile drop experiments is one of the most popular and simple ways to quantify the wettability of surfaces and determine the surface free energy. Despite decades of technical advancements in contact angle measurements, which allowed for improving the precision of sessile drop ...

Fuzzy based models for estimating static contact angle and sliding angle of liquid drops

Progress in Organic Coatings, 2018
Abstract Prediction of the contact angles and sliding angles of liquid drops is so difficult, because the interaction among the variables, which have impact on the angles, is so complex. Therefore, in this paper fuzzy logic was used to develop prediction models.

Static contact angle hysteresis on smooth, homogeneous solid substrates

Colloid and Polymer Science, 2012
A theory of contact angle hysteresis on smooth, homogeneous solid substrates is developed in terms of shape of disjoining/conjoining pressure isotherm and quasi-equilibrium phenomena. It is shown that all contact angles, θ, in the range θ r

Characterization of the Intrinsic Water Wettability of Graphite Using Contact Angle Measurements: Effect of Defects on Static and Dynamic Contact Angles

Langmuir, 2017
Elucidating the intrinsic water wettability of the graphitic surface has increasingly attracted research interests, triggered by the recent finding that the well-established hydrophobicity of graphitic surfaces actually results from airborne hydrocarbon contamination.

Comparison of static contact angle change and relaxation in EWOD devices

2009 Spanish Conference on Electron Devices, 2009
In conventional Electrowetting on Dielectric (EWOD) devices a static change of the contact angle is observed when a voltage is applied to the electrodes, usually correlated to the Lippmann equation. In this paper we analyze the contact angle changes by using two different dielectrics of different materials and thicknesses and also comparing two ...

A Static Contact Angle Algorithm for Silicone Rubber Aging Experiments

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2013
To improve the accuracy of the static contact angle measurement in the silicone rubber aging experiments, a high accurate contact angle algorithm in combination with the circle fitting algorithm and ellipse fitting algorithm is proposed. The influence of the water drop volume and noise on the calculation accuracies of the two algorithms are analyzed ...

Study of static contact angle measurement method based on least squares fitting

2011 International Conference on Electrical and Control Engineering, 2011
In order to get accurate measurement of static contact angle of silicone rubber, the method based on the least squares fitting is proposed to obtain static contact angle through fitting the globule edge. This method fits the globule edge by the least square method according to the rule that the globule edge is round if the globule only has little water.
