Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

Memory of the Unjamming Transition during Cyclic Tiltings of a Granular Pile [PDF]
Discrete numerical simulations are performed to study the evolution of the micro-structure and the response of a granular packing during successive loading-unloading cycles, consisting of quasi-static rotations in the gravity field between opposite ...

Accurate and Robust Static Hydrophobic Contact Angle Measurements Using Machine Learning
Recent years has seen a surge in new approaches to material discovery. However, in order to validate and characterise these novel materials that are being discovered at unprecedented speeds, methods of experimental characterisation must match the pace of discovery.

The Effect of Interfacial Properties and Liquid Flow on the Stability of Powder Islands
This study aims at understanding the interplay between the interfacial properties of the powder grains and the characteristics of the liquid flow used to disperse them, in order to obtain an effective dispersion of a powder in a liquid, avoiding air ...

The motion, stability and breakup of a stretching liquid bridge with a receding contact line
The complex behavior of drop deposition on a hydrophobic surface is considered by looking at a model problem in which the evolution of a constant-volume liquid bridge is studied as the bridge is stretched.

This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Elasticity of a contact-line and avalanche-size distribution at depinning
Motivated by recent experiments, we extend the Joanny-deGennes calculation of the elasticity of a contact line to an arbitrary contact angle and an arbitrary plate inclination in presence of gravity.
