Experiments and modelling of silty sands susceptible to static liquefaction

Mechanics of Cohesive‐frictional Materials, 1999
Most historic cases of liquefaction have been found to occur in alluvial (water) deposited silty sands. Currently, the effect of non-plastic fines (particles smaller than No. 200 sieve) on the liquefaction behaviour of sands is viewed to be either negligible or its presence actually inhibits liquefaction.

Effects of nonplastic fines on static liquefaction of sands

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1997

Static liquefaction of very loose sands: Discussion

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1999
Discussions 973 The Discusser was very happy to read this paper with very interesting experimental data on the static liquefaction of sands and to have the opportunity to apply the general equations already provided by the principle of natural proportionality to mathematically describe such “anomalous behaviour”.

Silt influence on static liquefaction of sands

2015
ABSTRACT Liquefaction of sandy soils remains to have great importance for the geotechnical and civil engineering community as its economical and social consequences are usually weighty. Case histories revealed that various failures occurred due to static or flow-type liquefaction including submarine slopes, mine tailings, spoil heaps,

A model for static liquefaction in triaxial compression and extension

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2002
The response of the elastoplastic refined Superior sand constitutive model in undrained triaxial compression and extension tests is presented. The model is aimed at realistic simulation of liquefaction occurring in loose, saturated, granular materials under monotonic static loading.

On the effect of anisotropy on drained static liquefaction triggering

Géotechnique Letters, 2020
A number of recent tailings storage facility (TSF) failures has been indicated through post-failure investigations to have been triggered in tailings that were under drained conditions up to the initiation of instability. Such field-scale behaviour is consistent with many laboratory element studies on drained triggering of instability.

Effect of static shear on resistance to liquefaction

2010
The influence of initial static shear stress on undrained cyclic loading behavior of saturated Ottawa sand has been studied using the triaxial test. Improved sample preparation techniques and testing equipment were employed to obtain samples of uniform density and minimize the effect of sample disturbance.

Effects of Fines on Static Liquefaction Potential of Sand

Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (2000), 2000
In Korea recently, the earthquake resistance design has been enforced on account of occurrence of earthquake even so the magnitude of earthquake is not so larger as those of Japan or China. This paper aims at scrutinizing the possibility of liquefaction by changing confining pressure, relative density and fines contents for Baekma river sand located in

Observations on static and cyclic sand-liquefaction methodologies

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1992
The paper focuses on a review of elements of the liquefaction of sand. Consideration is given to both the static and cyclic approach, and the bases for many of the divergent opinions that currently exist are given. The objective of the paper is to state the arguments and to explore common ground. By considering the inconsistencies that currently exist
