Direct Consolidation of Copper–Graphene Composite by Rotary Swaging

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The applicability of the rotary swaging method for preparation of electroconductive copper–graphene composite by direct consolidation of powders is proven. The consolidated material features advantageous microstructure featuring fine grains and twins, with homogeneous distribution of graphene, primarily along the twin boundaries, which contribute to ...

Towards large-Chern-number topological phases by periodic quenching

open access: yes, 2016
Topological phases with large Chern numbers have important implications. They were previously predicted to exist by considering fabricated long-range interactions or multi-layered materials.

Static Recrystallization Simulation of Interstitial Free‐Steel by Coupling Multi‐Phase‐Field and Crystal Plasticity Model Considering Dislocation Density Distribution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study models static recrystallization in interstitial free‐steel using coupled crystal plasticity and phase‐field simulations. The method directly links heterogeneous dislocation density to nucleation site prediction, eliminating reliance on empirical assumptions.

Jet quenching in a strongly interacting plasma - A lattice approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The phenomenon of jet quenching, related to the momentum broadening of a high-energy parton, provides important experimental evidence for the production of a strongly coupled, deconfined medium in heavy-ion collisions.

Scalable Manufacturing of Radiation‐Tolerant Potentiometric Electrodes: A Systematic Transition from Laboratory to Semiautomated Fabrication

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laboratory protocols for producing thin‐film pH electrodes for sterilized single‐use technologies have been successfully developed into a semiautomated workflow, with higher throughput and precision of membrane thickness. Accuracies are within 0.05 pH units versus ground truth, and uncertainty analysis reveals the largest sources of error to be derived

Discovery of Jet Quenching and Beyond

open access: yes, 2004
Recent observation of high-$p_T$ hadron spectra suppression and mono-jet production in central $Au+Au$ collisions and their absence in $d+Au$ collisions at RHIC have confirmed the long predicted phenomenon of jet quenching in high-energy heavy-ion ...

Assessing the Microstructure of SnBiZn Alloys during Semisolid Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The development of Sn‐based alloys for semisolid processing is crucial for Industry 4.0. This study investigates Sn40Bi and Sn40Bi2Zn alloys, revealing that Zn refines Sn‐rich globules by pinning dendrite boundaries. Bi saturation occurs at 60 min, while Zn enhances globule microhardness at 90 min through solid solution strengthening.

The Static Potential with Hypercubic Blocking [PDF]

open access: yesNucl.Phys.Proc.Suppl. 106 (2002) 418-420, 2001
We measure the static potential from Wilson loops constructed using hypercubic blocked (HYP) links. The HYP potential agrees with the potential measured using thin links for distances r/a>=2. We calculated the lowest order perturbative expansion of the lattice Coulomb potential of HYP links. These results are used in analyzing the static potential both

The Energy of a Moving Quark-Antiquark Pair in an N=4 SYM Plasma

open access: yes, 2006
We make use of the AdS/CFT correspondence to determine the energy of an external quark-antiquark pair that moves through strongly-coupled thermal N=4 super-Yang-Mills plasma, both in the rest frame of the plasma and in the rest frame of the pair.

Mechanical Behavior and Microstructural Changes Associated with Tensile Deformation above the Martensite Start Temperature during Quenching and Subsequent Partitioning of a Low‐Alloy 37SiB6 Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A new experimental setup, incorporating digital image correlation and infrared thermography in combination with inductive‐conductive heating for precise temperature control, is used to analyze the mechanical behavior and microstructural changes of sheet metal under complex thermomechanical test conditions that represent quench and partitioning ...
