Multi-parallel-connected static synchronous series compensators

2013 Twenty-Eighth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2013
A modular and scalable concept of series compensation for enhancing controllability and increasing power flow transfer in future distributed power systems is proposed. It is based on paralleling multiple static synchronous series compensators (SSSC), namely multi-parallel-connected SSSC (MSSSC), to achieve reactive power compensation.

Parameterize pre-compensator design for static synchronous series compensator (SSSC)

Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering 2004 (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37513), 2004
The static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) is a converter-based flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) device, which by means of a high-power voltage source inverter inserts a controllable voltage in series with the transmission line system. The resultant system is multivariable with effective interactions among its state variables, Therefore ...

Static synchronous series compensator—design, control and application

Electric Power Systems Research, 1999
The design, modeling and control design of a 48-step inverter based static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) is presented in this paper. A magnetic circuit is chosen which contains 18 single-phase three winding transformers and six single-phase two winding transformers to add the output voltages of eight 3-phase inverters.

A static synchronous series compensator model for EMTDC

IEEE AFRICON. 6th Africon Conference in Africa,, 2003
This paper presents a detailed simulation model of an SSSC for the simulation package EMTDC. The model includes a detailed representation of a three-level, 24-pulse voltage source inverter as well as the SSSC controls around it. The SSSC simulation model is first benchmarked against known results from the literature and then used to analyse the ...

Power Flow Control Using Transformer-less Static Synchronous Series Compensators

2021 3rd International Youth Conference on Radio Electronics, Electrical and Power Engineering (REEPE), 2021
This paper studies the application of the distributed static synchronous series compensator DSSSC in the power flow control of 110 kV transmission system. The transformer-less DSSSC is developed to control the injected series voltage to regulate the power flow.

Application of Static Synchronous Series Compensator to Damp Sub-Synchronous Resonance

2006 International Conference on Power Electronic, Drives and Energy Systems, 2006
In this paper, a static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) is used to avoid torsional mode instability in a series compensated transmission system. The power system used in this study is the IEEE first benchmark model for sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) analysis. Simulation results in time domain using PSCAD/EMTDC presented and discussed.

A Fuzzy-Controlled Differential Evolution Integrated Static Synchronous Series Compensator to Enhance Power System Stability

Journal of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, 2020
Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) is the fact device that provides stable and controlled power transmission. The unequal load, power disturbances, and fault can cause power fluctuations in the system.

Static synchronous series compensator model in EMTP

IEEE CCECE2002. Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.02CH37373), 2003
A voltage source converter (VSC) can be used as a sinusoidal voltage source with controllable amplitude and angle. When placed in series with a transmission line, this source can control the flow of active and/or reactive power in the line thereby operating as a series compensator Note that in the mode of active power controller a separate DC source of

Frequency-Domain Analysis of the Static Synchronous Series Compensator

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2006
This paper presents an analytical formulation of the frequency-domain characteristics of the static synchronous series compensator (SSSC). This paper investigates the characteristics of using two different types of SSSC controllers-one with quadrature voltage regulation (V/sub q/-controlled SSSC) and another with impedance regulation (X/sub q ...

Improving power oscillation damping using static synchronous series compensator

2013 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON), 2013
In this paper a static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) is used to improve the small signal stability of a power system. A 48-step voltage source inverter (VSI) is used for the implementation of SSSC. The PI controller is used to regulate the dc link voltage of VSI.
