Mechanism and Machine Theory
Profile modifications are a common practice to mitigate torsional dynamics and enhance mechanical efficiency in geared systems. Therefore, it is necessary to develop analytical tools that accurately predict the effect of such modifications on mesh stiffness and dynamic behavior of gear trains under both design and off-design conditions.

Static Transmission Error Analysis of a Hybrid Spur Gear Drivetrain
Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 76th Annual Forum, 2020This study presents static analyses of transmission error in a single gear pair gearbox for six pairs of hybrid composite-steel spur gear designs developed in a previously presented optimization effort. The results were compared to those of the same gearbox featuring a baseline all-steel gear pair.

Profile Modifications for Minimum Static Transmission Error in Cylindrical Gears
Volume 8: 1998 Power Transmission and Gearing Conference, 1998Abstract The theoretical advantage of conjugate action in involute gears is lost due to the deflection of the teeth under load and due to manufacturing and assembling errors. These factors produce instantaneous variations in the gear ratio commonly referred to as transmission error. The transmission error has been proven to have a strong

Topology Optimization and Analysis of Static Transmission Error in Lightweight Gears
2016In this paper, the influence of gear-body lightweighting on the static transmission error (STE) for a pair of spur gears is investigated by using the Finite Element (FE) method. The transmission error, in fact, is recognized as one of the main internal excitation sources in a mechanical transmission and the minimization of its variability along the ...

Separation distance and static transmission error of involute spur gears
28th Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 1992The effects of separation distance and deflection of gear teeth on the static transmission error of involute spur gears are investigated. In this paper, only low-contact-ratio gears with true involute profile are studied. Gear ratio and tooth addendum are varied to examine their effects on the separation distance and static transmission error.

Optimum Profile Modifications for the Minimization of Static Transmission Errors of Spur Gears
Journal of Mechanisms, Transmissions, and Automation in Design, 1986A procedure for computing static transmission errors and tooth load sharing was developed for low and high contact ratio internal and external spur gears. A suitable optimization algorithm was used to minimize any combination of the harmonics of gear mesh frequency components of the static transmission error.
