Prediction of Gear Dynamics Using Fast Fourier Transform of Static Transmission Error*
Mechanics of Structures and Machines, 1993ABSTRACT An analytical computer simulation procedure for dynamic modeling of low-contact-ratio spur gear systems is presented. The procedure computes the gear static transmission error and uses a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to generate its frequency spectrum at various tooth profile modifications. The dynamic loading response of an unmodified (perfect

Profile Modifications for Minimum Static Transmission Error in Cylindrical Gears
Volume 8: 1998 Power Transmission and Gearing Conference, 1998Abstract The theoretical advantage of conjugate action in involute gears is lost due to the deflection of the teeth under load and due to manufacturing and assembling errors. These factors produce instantaneous variations in the gear ratio commonly referred to as transmission error. The transmission error has been proven to have a strong

The Static Transmission Error of Cracked Spur Gear Teeth Using FEA
Volume 6: 18th Computers in Engineering Conference, 1998Abstract This paper considers a Finite Element Model which is used to predict the torsional mesh stiffness and static transmission error of a pair of spur gears in mesh. The model involves the use of 2D plain strain elements, coupled with contact elements at the points of contact between the meshing teeth.

For a gear pair, both the contact pattern and the transmission error (TE) significantly impact durability and fatigue life. Design and manufacturing processes are often aimed at improving the contact pattern and reducing the overall TE.

Optimum Profile Modifications for the Minimization of Static Transmission Errors of Spur Gears
Journal of Mechanisms, Transmissions, and Automation in Design, 1986A procedure for computing static transmission errors and tooth load sharing was developed for low and high contact ratio internal and external spur gears. A suitable optimization algorithm was used to minimize any combination of the harmonics of gear mesh frequency components of the static transmission error.
