Optimization of a Static VAR Compensation Parameters Using PBIL

2015
Static VAR Compensators (SVCs) are part of the family of the Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices that are predominantly used for quick and reliable line voltage control. Under contingency conditions, they can be used to provide dynamic, fast response reactive power.

Dynamic simulation of static VAR compensators in distribution systems

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1992
A system study guide is provided for the correction of voltage dips due to large motor startups with static VAR compensators (SVCs). The method utilizes times simulations, which are an important aid in the equipment design and specification. The author illustrates the process of setting-up a computer model and performing time simulations.

Assessing the Performance of a Static Var Compensator for an Electric Arc Furnace

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2012
The advantages of a Static VAR Compensator (SVC) for electric arc furnace (EAF) and ladle melt furnace (LMF) applications are well known. The SVC minimizes the impact of the EAF and LMF on the utility as well as improves the efficiency of both furnaces. In this application, it was desirable to quantify the performance of the SVC.
