Improve Performance Electrical Power System on Mahakam System Using Static Var Compensator

2018 2nd Borneo International Conference on Applied Mathematics and Engineering (BICAME), 2018
This research is intended to improve the East Kalimantan electric power system which has a name Mahakam system. The electric power system generally experiences voltage drops and power losses when distribute electrical energy.

Lessons learned in static var compensator protection

2017 70th Annual Conference for Protective Relay Engineers (CPRE), 2017
Static VAR Compensators (SVCs) are an increasingly common solution for power system voltage stability problems by providing rapid var support following system disturbances. From a protection perspective, an extensive protection system is typically necessary to ensure the SVC's operating range is available to provide rapid and reliable var support to ...

Multi-level converters for static VAr compensation

IEE Colloquium on Update on New Power Electronic Techniques, 1997
There has been much interest in the use of two level voltage source convertors as advanced static VAr compensators (ASVC). It has been shown that there are two basic problems that must be overcome before this type of ASVC can be put into practical use. Firstly, it is necessary to connect a number of gate turn off (GTO) thyristors in series to form the ...

Static Var Compensator Technology and its Progress

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
This paper introduced the fundamental types of Static Var Compensator (SVC) device and its typical circuit structures, analyzed the principles of SVC (TCR type), the typical structures of the main circuits and the corresponding control system, and the main functions of SVC devices.

Analysis of GTO-based static VAr compensators

IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 1994
The growing availability of high-power gate turn-off thyristors (GTOs) has meant that power electronic convertor circuits can be manufactured with the ability to both absorb and generate reactive power. These circuits constitute the next generation of static VAr compensators (SVCs) which may eventually supersede the conventional thyristor-controlled ...

Static VAr compensator with fully controlled reactors

IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 1994
A novel configuration for a static VAr compensator (of fundamental harmonic reactive power) is proposed. The compensator operates by controlling coupled reactors through force-commutated switches. The compensator is compared with traditional systems and its specific advantages, including cost factors, are discussed.

Static VAr compensators components and design considerations

3D Africon Conference. Africon '92 Proceedings (Cat. No.92CH3215), 2003
Static VAr compensators (SVCs) in thyristor technology are presently the most economic solutions for dynamic reactive power compensation. The arrangements, components, and design criteria of conventional SVCs using thyristors are described.

Static Var Compensator for power oscillation damping

IEEE PES T&D 2010, 2010
The first Static Var Compensator (SVC) for utility purpose in Finland has been installed to Finnish electricity transmission network. The primary purpose of the SVC is to detect and damp electromechanical interarea oscillations in the network. This paper presents the planning and design aspects of the SVC, the structure of the power oscillation damping
