Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

A Hybrid Active Filter Using the Backstepping Controller for Harmonic Current Compensation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This document presents a new hybrid combination of filters using passive and active elements because of the generalization in the use of non-linear loads that generate harmonics directly affecting the symmetry of energy transmission systems that ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Static voltage stability margin evaluation for a DC distribution network with DC electric springs

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
The rapid growth of DC loads in distribution networks positions DC distribution networks as a promising solution for future power systems. However, the operational limits of power electronic devices in DC distribution networks may pose static voltage ...

Direct Detection of Voltage Collapse in Electrical Power System

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2011
Voltage stability is indeed a dynamic problem. Dynamic analysis is important for better understanding of voltage instability process. In this work an analysis for voltage stability from bifurcation and voltage collapse point of view based on a center ...

Review of Static Voltage Stability Analysis of Power System

open access: yesDEStech Transactions on Engineering and Technology Research, 2017
So far, the research of static voltage stability is relatively mature. Several indices of static voltage stability are introduced, such as singular value index, sensitivity index, line voltage stability index and local voltage stability index.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Theory of water and charged liquid bridges

open access: yes, 2012
The phenomena of liquid bridge formation due to an applied electric field is investigated. A new solution for the charged catenary is presented which allows to determine the static and dynamical stability conditions where charged liquid bridges are ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
