Rainfall statistics, stationarity, and climate change
Significance Precipitation shows large year-to-year variations, and there is interest in whether there have been long-lasting changes. We use a global land-based database (1940–2009) of annual precipitation and find evidence for changes at around 14% of ...

The Computational Complexity of Estimating Convergence Time [PDF]
An important problem in the implementation of Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithms is to determine the convergence time, or the number of iterations before the chain is close to stationarity. For many Markov chains used in practice this time is not known.

On a Class of Time Series Model with Double Lindley Distribution as Marginals
An autoregressive process of order one with double Lindley distribution as marginal is introduced. A mixture distribution is obtained for the innovation process. Analytical properties of the process are discussed.

Product differentiation in the fruit industry: Lessons from trademarked apples
Abstract We derive price premiums for patented or trademarked apple varieties, also known as “club apples,” compared to open‐variety apples. We use an expansive retail scanner dataset, along with unique data on apple taste characteristics, to estimate monthly club apple premiums for 2008–2018.

Water rights, river compacts, and legal-policy stationarity in the American West
This article examines static-data assumptions trapped in water rights and, separately, in larger interstate river compacts in the American West. These reflect assumptions of scalar stationarity embedded in water codes in western states.

Abstract Futures markets are critical to price discovery and often dominate spot markets. We analyze the linkages between daily corn futures and spot prices in the United States using dynamic time warping. This nonparametric pattern recognition technique has several advantages over traditional time series methods.

Detecting long-range dependence in non-stationary time series
An important problem in time series analysis is the discrimination between non-stationarity and longrange dependence. Most of the literature considers the problem of testing specific parametric hypotheses of non-stationarity (such as a change in the mean)
