Ceramic Particle‐Reinforced Medium‐Entropy Alloys With Outstanding Mechanical Properties Prepared by Novel Micro‐LPBF

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative medium entropy alloy (MEA) composite material was fabricated via micro laser powder bed fusion (μ‐LPBF) with appropriate nano‐ceramic particles doping and exhibited markedly improved overall performance, including synergistically enhanced strength and ductility, increased hardness and compressive strength, improved wear resistance and ...

Validity of heavy traffic steady-state approximations in generalized Jackson Networks

open access: yes, 2006
We consider a single class open queueing network, also known as a generalized Jackson network (GJN). A classical result in heavy-traffic theory asserts that the sequence of normalized queue length processes of the GJN converge weakly to a reflected ...

Quasi-Stationary Distributions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this chapter, we study quasi-stationary distributions for blockstructured Markov chains with either finitely-many levels or infinitely-many levels. We derive the RG-factorizations for the β -discounted block-structured transition matrix. We provide conditions for the state α -classification, and derive two sets of expressions for the quasi ...

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...

Non‐stationary clutter suppression method for bistatic airborne radar based on adaptive segmentation and space–time compensation

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation, 2021
Bistatic airborne radar has excellent performance due to the separate transmitter and receiver, but its clutter distribution is usually non‐stationary, which causes the performance of the traditional Space time adaptive processing (STAP) method to fail ...

MAGTWIST: A Magnetically‐Driven Rotary Actuator Using a Traveling‐Wave With Integrated Stiffness Tunability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MAGTWIST: A compact magnetic rotary actuator, enabling smooth, stepless rotation, and on‐demand locking. Inspired by peristalsis, a soft polymer belt generates a traveling‐wave, enabling 270° rotation when heated. Cooling stiffens the belt, locking it in position and enabling it to withstand high loads.

The transformed-stationary approach: a generic and simplified methodology for non-stationary extreme value analysis [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2016
Statistical approaches to study extreme events require, by definition, long time series of data. In many scientific disciplines, these series are often subject to variations at different temporal scales that affect the frequency and intensity of their ...

External Reflection From Two‐Photon Laser‐Printed Micromirrors Enables Photomechanical Actuation at a 90° Incident Angle

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Light reflectance increases along incidence angle and transmittance significantly drops around 90‐degree incidence angle. Here, we report two‐photon laser printed micro mirrors that redirect the skimming light beam into normal light absorption. Using this technique, light‐driven micro walkers and grippers are demonstrated by using grazing incidence ...

Stationary Distribution and Density Function for a High-Dimensional Stochastic SIS Epidemic Model with Mean-Reverting Stochastic Process

open access: yesAxioms
This paper explores a high-dimensional stochastic SIS epidemic model characterized by a mean-reverting, stochastic process. Firstly, we establish the existence and uniqueness of a global solution to the stochastic system.

Analysis of an MAP/PH/1 Queue with Flexible Group Service

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, 2017
A novel customer batch service discipline for a single server queue is introduced and analyzed. Service to customers is offered in batches of a certain size. If the number of customers in the system at the service completion moment is less than this size,
