Computers, the Second Revolution in Statistics

open access: yesBiometrics, 1966
May I first express my appreciation of the honour our new President of the Royal Society, Professor Blackett, has done Sir Ronald Fisher by consenting to take the Chair tonight. I am particularly pleased that he is presiding at this meeting as not only was he an old friend of Sir Ronald, but it was also he and the then Secretary of the Agricultural ...

Statistical Interpolation of Tidal Datums and Computation of Its Associated Spatially Varying Uncertainty

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2016
Tidal datums are key components in NOAA’s Vertical Datum transformation project (VDatum). In this paper, we propose a statistical interpolation method, derived from the variational principle, to calculate tidal datums by blending the modeled and the ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Combinatorial Optimization with Information Geometry: The Newton Method

open access: yesEntropy, 2014
e discuss the use of the Newton method in the computation of max(p → Εp [f]), where p belongs to a statistical exponential family on a finite state space.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Automatic files in statistical systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
The existing statistical systems are designed for satisfying conditions which are changing rapidly today. The most marked feature of the existing systems of many countries is their extensive periodic surveys.

A selective review on statistical methods for massive data computation: distributed computing, subsampling, and minibatch techniques

open access: yesStatistical Theory and Related Fields
This paper presents a selective review of statistical computation methods for massive data analysis. A huge amount of statistical methods for massive data computation have been rapidly developed in the past decades.
