Statistical approach to range-data fusion and interpretation

Proceedings of the First Euromicro Workshop on Advanced Mobile Robots (EUROBOT '96), 2002
Making-use of multiple sensors is crucial for improvement of mobile robot navigation performance. The contribution introduces a problem of integrating noisy range-data by data fusion on signal/pixel level. This is performed for multiple sensors and different sensor positions into a common description of the environment. The paper deals with grid models,

Multivariate statistical interpretation of coastal sediment monitoring data

Fresenius' Journal of Analytical Chemistry, 2001
Multivariate statistical analysis of sediment data (input matrix 122 x 15) collected from 122 sampling sites from the western coastline of the USA and analyzed for 15 analytes indicates that the data structure could be explained by four latent factors. These factors are conditionally named "anthropogenic", "organic", "natural", and "hot spots".

Is statistical significance testing useful in interpreting data?

Reproductive Toxicology, 1993
Although P values and statistical significance testing have become entrenched in the practice of biomedical research, their usefulness and drawbacks should be reconsidered, particularly in observational epidemiology. The central role for the null hypothesis, assuming an infinite number of replications, and the dichotomization of results as positive or ...

Statistical interpretation of S-on-1 data and the damage initiation mechanism

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
ABSTRACT Multipulse laser induced damage optical materials is an important topic for many applications of nonlinear crystals. We studied multi pulse damage in X-cut KTiOPO 4 . A 6ns Nd:YAG laser has been used with a weakly focused beam. A fatigue phenomenon has been observed and we try to clarif y the question whether or not this phenomenon necessarily
