Statistical Aspects of a Three-Mode Factor Analysis Model

Psychometrika, 1978
A special case of Bloxom's version of Tucker's three-mode model is developed statistically. A distinction is made between modes in terms of whether they are fixed or random. Parameter matrices are associated with the fixed modes, while no parameters are associated with the mode representing random observation vectors.

Statistical distribution of factors and factor images in factor analysis of medical image sequences

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1998
From a time or energy image sequence, factor analysis of medical image sequences (FAMIS) estimates factors, representing kinetics or spectra in a given physiological compartment, and associated factor images, showing the compartments corresponding to each curve.

Principal Component Analysis - Statistical Method of Territorial Profile Factor Analysis

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2006
The purpose of factor analysis is to select from a large number of random variables, a reduced number of factors which provide the possibility to more exactly and more complexly establish the interdependences. The principal component analysis is based on a rigorous mathematical instrument, which does not take into consideration any of the arbitrary ...

Statistical error analysis using the UDUT covariance factorization

1977 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control including the 16th Symposium on Adaptive Processes and A Special Symposium on Fuzzy Set Theory and Applications, 1977
A numerically improved covariance error analysis algorithm is derived using the matrix factorization P = UDUT. The algorithm employs computationally sound transformation techniques to ensure increased precision and stability. The advantages of this approach are demonstrated by applying the U-D and conventional evaluation algorithms to a representative ...

Statistical Analysis of Debris Flow Preconditioning Factors

2016
The literature review on factors controlling debris flow initiation (Chap. 3) highlighted the significant role of preconditioning factors on the spatial distribution and activity of debris flow systems. In this chapter, univariate and multivariate statistics are used to investigate the potential influence of periglacial and non-periglacial ...

On the Statistical Treatment of Residuals in Factor Analysis

Psychometrika, 1962
A method for estimation in factor analysis is presented. The method is based on the assumption that the residual (specific and error) variances are proportional to the reciprocal values of the diagonal elements of the inverted covariance (correlation) matrix. The estimation is performed by a modification of Whittle's least squares technique. The method
