Small-area measures of income poverty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper considers techniques for measuring the prevalence of income poverty within small areas, or “neighbourhoods”, in Britain. The ultimate purpose is applying such statistics to investigating how the micro-spatial distribution of poverty within ...

Universal Electronic‐Structure Relationship Governing Intrinsic Magnetic Properties in Permanent Magnets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Permanent magnets derive their extraordinary strength from deep, universal electronic‐structure principles that control magnetization, anisotropy, and intrinsic performance. This work uncovers those governing rules, examines modern modeling and AI‐driven discovery methods, identifies critical bottlenecks, and reveals electronic fingerprints shared ...

Does Reform Work? An Econometric Examination of the Reform-Growth Puzzle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Why are socially beneficial reforms not implemented? One simple answer to this question (which has received little attention in the literature) is that this may be caused by generalised uncertainty about the effectiveness of reforms. If agents are unsure

What is the best risk measure in practice? A comparison of standard measures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Expected Shortfall (ES) has been widely accepted as a risk measure that is conceptually superior to Value-at-Risk (VaR). At the same time, however, it has been criticised for issues relating to backtesting.

Deterministic hBN Bubbles as a Versatile Platform for Studies on Single‐Photon Emitters

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐photon emitters (SPEs) in hBN are promising for quantum technologies; however, in exfoliated samples their activation is required, limiting reproducibility of previous studies. This work introduces a large‐area MOVPE‐grown hBN platform that hosts SPEs without prior activation.

The relative income hypothesis: does it exist over time? Evidence from the BHPS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The relative income hypothesis suggests that income inequality has a detrimental affect on people´s health. This previously well accepted relationship has recently come under scrutiny.

Bio‐Inspired Magnetically Tunable Structural Colors from Elliptical Self‐Assembled Block Copolymer Microparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cephalopod‐inspired photonic microparticles with dynamic structural coloration are fabricated via confined self‐assembly of linear block copolymers into ellipsoids containing stacked lamellae. Embedded superparamagnetic nanoparticles enable rapid magnetic alignment, restoring vivid, angle‐dependent color.

Concepts of Reliability Theory and Their Relationship with the Economic Inequality indicators

open access: yesپژوهش‌های ریاضی, 2020
Introduction    One of ‎the ‎intersecting aspects of the reliability theory and economics is investigating non-negative data generally skewed‎ ‎(lifetimes and income)‎, ‎extrapolation of a suitable model for the data and finding their characteristics ...

Why we measure period fertility

open access: yes, 2007
Four reasons for measuring period fertility are distinguished: to explain fertility time trends, to anticipate future fertility, to construct theoretical models and to communicate with non-specialist audiences.

A Novel Microfluidic System for 3D Epidermis and Full‐Thickness Skin Growth for Nanoparticle Safety Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a novel, dynamically perfused, configurable microfluidic system for epidermis‐only (E and full‐thickness skin (FT SoC) growth, emulating human skin structure and barrier function. Upon TiO2 nanoparticle exposure, the system reveals compromised barrier integrity, reduced metabolic activity, increased permeability, and chemokine‐driven
