Mathematical and Statistical Methods of Assessment in Audit

open access: yesСтатистика України, 2017
In course of an audit, auditor must collect, scrutinize, assess and document a large amount of reliable and acceptable information that will be useful for audit purposes. The article is devoted to use of mathematical and statistical methods in analytical

Quantile-based methods for prediction, risk measurement and inference

open access: yes, 2010
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. The focus of this thesis is on the employment of theoretical and practical quantile methods in addressing prediction, risk measurement and inference ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Arctan inverted exponentiated Weibull model with actuarial measures and applications to insurance and inflation data

open access: yesScientific African
Trigonometric-based statistical models have gained attention in recent years because of their ability to capture complex data patterns. In this article, we propose a new extension of the inverted exponentiated Weibull (IEW) distribution by embedding it ...

Extreme Value at Risk and Expected Shortfall during Financial Crisis [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper investigates Value at Risk and Expected Shortfall for CAC 40, S&P 500, Wheat and Crude Oil indexes during the 2008 financial crisis. We show an underestimation of the risk of loss for the unconditional VaR models as compared with the ...

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Hedge Funds: Risk and Return [PDF]

open access: yes
Constructing a data base that is relatively free of bias, this paper provides measures of the returns of hedge fund s as well as the distinctly non-normal characteristics of the data.

Some classes of multivariate risk measures

open access: yes, 2010
In actuarial literature the properties of risk measures have been extensively studied. We propose a new kind of stop-loss transform and arelated order in a multivariate setting and some equivalent conditions.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.
