Why Psychologists Should by Default Use Welch’s t-test Instead of Student’s t-test

open access: yesInternational Review of Social Psychology, 2017
When comparing two independent groups, psychology researchers commonly use Student’s 't'-tests. Assumptions of normality and homogeneity of variance underlie this test.

Beyond digital twins: the role of foundation models in enhancing the interpretability of multiomics modalities in precision medicine

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review highlights how foundation models enhance predictive healthcare by integrating advanced digital twin modeling with multiomics and biomedical data. This approach supports disease management, risk assessment, and personalized medicine, with the goal of optimizing health outcomes through adaptive, interpretable digital simulations, accessible ...

The experimental design of postmortem studies: the effect size and statistical power

open access: yesForensic Science, Medicine, and Pathology, 2016
PurposeThe aim is of this study was to show the poor statistical power of postmortem studies. Further, this study aimed to find an estimate of the effect size for postmortem studies in order to show the importance of this parameter. This can be an aid in

Red blood cells could protect miRNAs from degradation or loss thanks to Argonaute 2 binding

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The present work investigates the presence and the stability of miRNAs into RBCs, both native and engineered. The observed stability is due to the Ago2 bound resulting in minimal RISC. Indeed, if the miRNA‐Ago2 complex is present, miRNAs are protected from release or degradation and they are biologically active. Thus, RBCs can act as miRNA carriers for

Understanding statistical power using noncentral probability distributions: Chi-squared, G-squared, and ANOVA [PDF]

open access: yesTutorials in Quantitative Methods for Psychology, 2007
This paper presents a graphical way of interpreting effect sizes when more than two groups are involved in a statistical analysis. This method uses noncentral distributions to specify the alternative hypothesis, and the statistical power can thus be ...

Efficient sampling of avian acoustic recordings: intermittent subsamples improve estimates of single species prevalence and total species richness

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2018
Automated sound recording devices have become an important monitoring tool used to estimate species richness and abundance of birds in a variety of ecological and conservation studies.

Moments convergence of powered normal extremes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In this paper, convergence for moments of powered normal extremes is considered under an optimal choice of normalizing constants. It is shown that the rates of convergence for normalized powered normal extremes depend on the power index. However, the dependence disappears for higher-order expansions of moments.
