Thermodynamics-like Formalism for Immiscible and Incompressible Two-Phase Flow in Porous Media

open access: yes
It is possible to formulate an immiscible and incompressible two-phase flow in porous media in a mathematical framework resembling thermodynamics based on the Jaynes generalization of statistical mechanics. We review this approach and discuss the meaning

Iterative Selection of DNA Nanostructures for Cellular Uptake

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
DNA nanostructures are promising cell targeting delivery vehicles for therapeutics, but the targeting behavior is not fully understood. In this study, libraries of DNA nanostructures that can be amplified and sequenced are combined with cellular uptake as a selection pressure to iteratively refine DNA structures taken up in cells to better understand ...

Self‐Assembling Copolymers Encapsulating Single Endothelial Cells Induce Endogenous ECM Deposition and Vascular Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the first demonstration of stable sub‐50‐micron single‐cell GPM vesicles fabricated through the intrinsic self‐assembly of an amphiphilic copolymer. Hierarchical assembly of cell containing GPM vesicles into microspheres enable tunable, sustained cell delivery with immune protection.

Statistical thermodynamics

open access: yes, 1952
Nobel Laureate's brilliant attempt to develop a simple, unified standard method of dealing with all cases of statistical thermodynamics - classical, quantum, Bose-Einstein, Fermi-Dirac, and more. The work also includes discussions of Nernst theorem ...

Using a Zero‐Strain Reference Electrode to Distinguish Anode and Cathode Volume Changes in a Solid‐State Battery

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Volume changes of a solid‐state battery cell are separated into the individual contributions of anode and cathode. Simultaneously determining the “reaction volumes” of both electrodes requires a reference electrode with a pressure‐independent potential.

Nonequilibrium statistical thermodynamics

open access: yes, 2019
Detailed development of the statistical basis of nonequilibrium thermodynamics, based on the mathematical theory of Brownian motion. Unifying approach permits extraction of widely applicable principles from models.

Framework Flexibility on Water Sorption and Transport in ZIF‐90: Insights from Neural‐Network Molecular Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A DeepMD‐based molecular dynamics framework is developed to investigate water adsorption in ZIF‐90, explicitly accounting for framework flexibility. Results show that atomistic flexibility significantly influences adsorption energetics, diffusion, and structural correlations, yielding nearly constant heat of adsorption and enhanced mobility.
