Multivariate Statistical Analysis Applied to Water Quality of a Tropical Coastal Lagoon, Cartagena, Colombian Caribbean

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Chemistry, 2019
Coastal lagoons are one of the most threatened ecosystems in the world, because of population growth, habitat destruction, pollution, wastewater, overexploitation and invasive species which are the main causes of their degradation.

Human colon organoid differentiation from induced pluripotent stem cells using an improved method

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 6, Page 912-924, March 2025.
We compared established protocols to differentiate induced pluripotent stem cells into colon organoids and found that activation of bone morphogenetic protein 2 signaling induced gene expression of colon‐specific markers. Adenovirus‐mediated transduction of the transcription factors HOXD13 or SATB2 further enhanced colonic gene expression, suggesting ...

Introduction [PDF]

open access: yesStatistical Science 2011, Vol. 26, No. 2, 161-161, 2011
The Statistics Consortium at the University of Maryland, College Park, hosted a two-day workshop on Bayesian Methods that Frequentists Should Know during April 30--May 1, 2008. The event was co-sponsored by the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS), Office of Research and Methodology, National Center for Health Statistics, Survey Research Methods ...

Disparate Statistics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Statistical evidence is crucial throughout disparate impact’s three-stage analysis: during (1) the plaintiff’s prima facie demonstration of a policy’s disparate impact; (2) the defendant’s job-related business necessity defense of the discriminatory ...

Insights into the renal pathophysiology in Hermansky‐Pudlak syndrome‐1 from urinary extracellular vesicle proteomics and a new mouse model

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 7, Page 1055-1074, April 2025.
Hermansky‐Pudlak syndrome type 1 (HPS‐1) is a rare, autosomal recessive disorder with poorly understood renal involvement. Urinary extracellular vesicle (uEV) proteomics and a novel Hps1 mouse model reveal mitochondrial abnormalities and lipid accumulation in HPS‐1 kidney proximal tubule cells. Serum ApoA1 correlates with kidney function in our patient

Cytosolic‐enhanced dark Epac‐based FRET sensors allow for intracellular cAMP detection in live cells via FLIM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 7, Page 1075-1085, April 2025.
We describe a novel set of Epac‐based FRET‐FLIM biosensors with improved fully cytosolic distribution, achieved without compromising the state‐of‐the‐art performance of our original designs, for detecting cAMP dynamics in real time in live cells with high precision and reliability.

The Statistics of q-Statistics

open access: yesEntropy
Almost two decades ago, Ernesto P. Borges and Bruce M. Boghosian embarked on the intricate task of composing a manuscript to honor the profound contributions of Constantino Tsallis to the realm of statistical physics, coupled with a concise exploration of q-Statistics.

Fisher's combined probability test for high-dimensional covariance matrices [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Testing large covariance matrices is of fundamental importance in statistical analysis with high-dimensional data. In the past decade, three types of test statistics have been studied in the literature: quadratic form statistics, maximum form statistics, and their weighted combination.

Molecular insights into the modulation of the 5HT2A receptor by serotonin, psilocin, and the G protein subunit Gqα

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 6, Page 876-891, March 2025.
We explore 5HT2A receptor activation, a key target for psychedelic drugs, using molecular dynamics simulations. Without Gqα, the active receptor collapses to an inactive conformation, underscoring the G‐protein's role. Discovery of an intermediate “partially‐open” state and the higher affinity of ligands to the orthosteric binding site provides ...
