Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The Social Portrait of Latvian Anti-Soviet Armed Resistance in the Beginning of German-Soviet War in Summer 1941

open access: yesLatvijas Universitātes Žurnāls. Vēsture
So far, historiography has focused only on the causes and military aspects of the Latvian anti-Soviet armed resistance in 1941. The quantitative and qualitative data presented in a survey conducted by the Latvian Statistical Bureau in 1941–1942 enable ...

Temporary forms of performative space: Impact of temporary architecture on audience diversification [PDF]

open access: yesArchitecture Papers of the Faculty of Architecture and Design STU
The term temporary forms of performative space was coined out of the need to define the group of objects under study that use temporality and the architectural input into a non-theatrical space, and serve as boundaries for performative content.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Henry Ludwell Moore and the Dynamic Complement of Pure Economics

open access: yesŒconomia, 2013
Drawing on H.L. Moore’s reflections on method, and in particular the place of pure economics in relation to dynamics and statistics, this paper focuses on Moore’s last attempt at the end of the 1920s to analyze economic dynamics within a general ...
