Biogeography of Virioplankton Abundance and Subcluster Patterns in the Northwest Pacific: A Large-Scale Perspective. [PDF]
Enhanced‐resolution flow cytometry combined with phenotypic diversity analysis reveals four consistent viral subclusters and a fifth restricted to the Yellow Sea across the Northwest Pacific. These results identify a cryptic diversity hotspot in the Luzon Strait and demonstrate how environmental and biological gradients shape large‐scale patterns in ...

The key role of local and global farmer networks in the development of conservation agriculture in California. [PDF]
Abstract This article chronicles the history of California's Conservation Agriculture Systems Innovation (CASI) Center and how it has increased agricultural sustainability in the San Joaquin Valley, a major production area for the United States, by using agroecological practices to reduce soil erosion and conserve soil moisture, champion systems ...

Microbiome-mediated alleviation of tobacco replant problem via autotoxin degradation after long-term continuous cropping. [PDF]
Continuous cropping often results in severe “replant problem,” across various crops due to the autotoxins accumulation, soil acidification, pathogens proliferation, and microbial dysfunction. We unveiled a groundbreaking phenomenon that long‐term continuous cropping (LTCC) can alleviate the tobacco replant problem.

ENSO‐Related Interannual Variability of the Kuroshio in the East China Sea Since the Mid‐2000s
Abstract Using observational and reanalysis data sets, we investigated interannual variability in the Kuroshio in the East China Sea (ECS‐Kuroshio). We exhibited that the surface velocity and position of the ECS‐Kuroshio were synchronized on a quasi‐3‐year interannual timescale during 2005–2016.

The potential role of synovial cells in the progression and treatment of osteoarthritis
Synovial cells play an important role in the progression of osteoarthritis (OA). This article summarizes the biological functions of the synovium, synovial cells, and synovial fluid, discussing their potential roles in OA. Preclinical and clinical studies related to targeting synovial cells and synovial mesenchymal stem cell (SMSC)‐based treatments are

Why Did the 2017 Kuroshio Large Meander Event Become the Longest in the Past 70 Years?
Abstract The Kuroshio south of Japan is known to vacillate between a straight and a large meander (LM) path. Since 1950, eight LM events have been observed with different durations. The most recent/on‐going LM started in August 2017 and has become the longest event in record.

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria: Where we stand
Abstract For the last 20 years, therapy of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) relied—up until recently—on antibody based terminal complement inhibitionon. PNH pathophysiology—a mutational defect leading to partial or complete absence of complement‐regulatory proteins on blood cells—leads to intravascular hemolysis and consequences such as ...

Abstract Oceanic submesoscale processes (submesoscales) with O(1–10) km horizontal scale can generate strong vertical buoyancy flux (VBF) that significantly modulate upper‐ocean stratification. Because submesoscales cannot be resolved by the prevailing ocean models, their VBFs have to be properly parameterized in order to improve model performance ...

Static behavior of T-shaped concrete-filled steel tubular columns subjected to concentric and eccentric compressive loads [PDF]
In this paper, a batch of T-shaped concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns, T-shaped steel tube confined concrete (STCC) columns and T-shaped reinforced concrete (RC) counterparts were tested subjected to concentric compressive load or eccentric ...

Wind-driven zonal jets in the South Pacific Ocean [PDF]
International audienceZonal jets west of the large islands of the South Pacific Ocean are predicted by theory, commonly seen in ocean models with sufficiently high resolution, and are beginning to be observed.
