Data‐Guided Photocatalysis: Supervised Machine Learning in Water Splitting and CO2 Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in supervised machine learning (ML) for photocatalysis, emphasizing methods to optimize photocatalyst properties and design materials for solar‐driven water splitting and CO2 reduction. Key applications, challenges, and future directions are discussed, offering a practical framework for integrating ML into the ...

Oxidation State Determines Solvent Structure Around a Manganese–Vanadium Polyoxometalate Water‐Oxidation Catalyst

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Oxidation state controls microsolvation in the polyoxometalate {MnV}n−$\{{\rm MnV}\}^{n-}$ water‐oxidation catalyst in acetonitrile/water mixtures. The reduced species {MnV}3− attracts a highly structured hydration layer even at low water content, preferentially binding terminal V═O sites and excluding acetonitrile, while oxidized species show weaker ...

Photophysiological and photosynthetic complex changes during iron starvation in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 and Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942

open access: yes, 2013
Iron is an essential component in many protein complexes involved in photosynthesis, but environmental iron availability is often low as oxidized forms of iron are insoluble in water.

Solar‐Driven Ammonia Synthesis From Nitrate Reduction Paired With CO2 Capture for Sustainable Agriculture via a Robust CuPd Heterojunction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Laser‐assisted synthesis of CuPd amorphous/crystalline heterojunction demonstrates >80% Faradaic efficiency for nitrate‐to‐ammonia electroreduction across wide potential windows. The integrated solar‐powered electrolyzer achieves 6% solar‐to‐ammonia energy efficiency at 0.4 sun, 6–20 mg h−1 CO2 capture rate, and stability exceeding 100 h.

Difference in single-leaf and whole-plant photosynthetic response to light under steady and non-steady states in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Although photosynthetic response to light has been extensively studied at the single-leaf level, little is known about the response at the whole-plant level.

Nonequilibrium Quantum Systems: Divergence between Global and Local Descriptions

open access: yesAdvances in Condensed Matter Physics, 2015
Even photosynthesis—the most basic natural phenomenon underlying life on Earth—involves the nontrivial processing of excitations at the pico- and femtosecond scales during light-harvesting.

Mechanisms of light harvesting by photosystem II in plants

open access: yes, 2015
Light harvesting by photosystem II (PSII) in plants is highly efficient and acclimates to rapid changes in the intensity of sunlight. However, the mechanisms of PSII light harvesting have remained experimentally inaccessible.

Photosynthesis and conductance of spring-wheat leaves: field response to continuous free-air atmospheric CO2 enrichment [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Spring wheat was grown from emergence to grain maturity in two partial pressures of CO2 (pCO2): ambient air of nominally 37 Pa and air enriched with CO2 to 55 Pa using a free-air CO2 enrichment (FACE) apparatus.

The Molecular Photo-Cell: Quantum Transport and Energy Conversion at Strong Non-Equilibrium

open access: yes, 2015
Non-equilibrium transport properties and energy conversion performance of a molecular photo-voltaic cell are analyzed using the Lindblad master equation within the open quantum systems approach.

Dynamics of carbon dioxide exchange of a wheat community grown in a semi-closed environment [PDF]

open access: yes
A wheat (Triticum aestivum Yecora Rojo) community was grown in the semi-closed conditions of the NASA/KSC Biomass Production Chamber (BPC). Experiments were conducted to determine whole community carbon dioxide exchange rates as influenced by growth and ...
