On the Steady Streaming Induced by Vibrating Walls

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 2012
We consider incompressible viscous flows between two transversely vibrating solid walls and construct an asymptotic expansion of solutions of the Navier--Stokes equations in the limit when both the amplitude of the vibration and the thickness of the oscillatory boundary layers (the Stokes layers) are small and have the same order of magnitude.

Effects of vibration on steady flow downstream of a stenosis

Journal of Biomechanics, 1988
A physical model was used to test the effects of vibrations on the position of transition to turbulence (zt) downstream of a constriction. Constrictions were inserted in a length of clear plastic (Tygon) tubing and vibrated. Water was the fluid medium and flow was visualized with India ink. The frequency and velocity of vibration were monitored.

CONTROL OF STEADY-STATE VIBRATIONS OF RECTANGULAR PLATES

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2011
The focus of the present research is to eliminate the undesired steady-state vibrations at selected lines or locations in a vibrating plate by means of adding attachments at arbitrary selected locations. These attachments can be either added concentrated masses and/or translational or rotational springs which are connected to the plate at one end and ...

On the steady vibrations of the thermoelastic porous materials

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1994
Abstract The problem of the steady vibrations in a linear theory of homogeneous and isotropic thermoelastic solids with voids is considered. First, integral relations of Betti type are established. The singular solutions corresponding to concentrated sources are used to derive representations of Somigliana type.

Plane steady vibration of an elastic wedge

Journal of Elasticity, 1975
The problem of plane steady vibration of an elastic wedge of arbitrary angle (less than 180 degrees) subject to harmonic normal and shearing tractions on its faces is reduced to a system of singular integral equations by the superposition of two half-plane solutions.

Steady streaming due to vibrating walls

Physics of Fluids, 2004
An analytical study of the flow induced by vibrating solid walls is presented. Transverse motions in the form of standing waves vibrated at small amplitudes are considered and the governing equations are perturbed using the slope as a small parameter.
