Analysis of solid oxide fuel cell hybrid power system in marine application for CO2 reduction

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2023
The usefulness of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) for a large vessel is evaluated by estimating the amount of CO2 emitted by a crude oil tanker. Conventional and two SOFC hybrid power generation systems are proposed and analyzed.

Steam Generator Secondary pH during a Steam Generator Tube Rupture [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Technology, 1993
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission requires utilizes to determine the response of a pressurized water reactor to a steam generator tube rupture (SGTR) as part of the safety analysis for the plant. The SGTR analysis includes assumptions regarding the partitioning of iodine between liquid and vapor in steam generator secondary.

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Nano‐Scale Characterization of Impurities Segregation in Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cathodic polarization induces impurity segregation in Ni, forming an amorphous Na─Al─Si─O amorphous phase at grain boundaries. Under ultralow oxygen partial pressure, multiple elements dissolve, migrate, and reoxidize within the metal. A patterned model system provides direct nanoscale evidence, clarifying the mechanism of polarization‐driven impurity ...

Qualification of strategies for modernizing test frequency of safety systems at nuclear power facilities with extended time of fuel campaigns

open access: yesTrudy Odesskogo Politehničeskogo Universiteta
A risk-informed method for qualifying (substantiating) strategies for increasing the test periodicity of passive safety systems in the regimes of increasing the time of fuel campaigns of nuclear power facilities has been developed.
