Design and Thermal Performance Analysis of a Coal‐Fired Unit Integrated With Molten Salt Heat Storage Using Orthogonal Experimental Method

open access: yesIET Smart Energy Systems, EarlyView.
By combining orthogonal experimental design with simulation, the optimal peak shaving scheme for the system was quickly identified among the 576 proposed working fluid extraction schemes for the coupled molten salt thermal storage system of thermal power units.

Greening the Gulf? Renewables, Fossil Capitalism and the ‘East–East’ Axis of World Energy

open access: yesDevelopment and Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article examines the place of the Gulf Cooperation Council states in the global energy transition, with a focus on the recent and rapid expansion of renewable energy in the region. It argues that much like at the global scale, the energy transition in the Gulf is an additive process, one that superimposes renewable energy on growing ...

Unbundling the Grid: Renewable Capital and the Demise of Electricity as a ‘Public Utility’ in the United States

open access: yesDevelopment and Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT One might think that renewable energies such as solar and wind are flow resources that are conducive to public ownership, but the vast majority of these renewables projects are privately owned. What explains this apparent paradox? This article focuses on the unique case of electricity in the United States to argue that renewable capital must ...

Magnetostrictive Sensor for Blockage Detection in Pipes Subjected to High Temperatures

open access: yesSensors, 2019
The use of solar thermal power plants is considered a cost-effective alternative to produce renewable energy. Unlike other energy installations, in this type of plants the transfer and storage of energy has been solved by using molten salts.

Geothermal Energy: Tapping the Energy in the Earth's Core [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Key facts: - Geothermal energy comes from the heat in the Earth's core. This heat creates underground reservoirs of steam and hot water, which can be tapped to generate electricity or to heat and cool buildings directly.

Электрофизические технологии применительно к тепловым энергоустановкам [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Рассмотрены термодинамические процессы в части низкого давления паровых турбин. Показано, что использование электрофизических технологий позволяет увеличивать эффективность турбоустановки на 0,4—0,7 % за счет уменьшения потерь энергии, вызванных ...

Stand‐alone power‐to‐X production dynamics: A multi‐method approach to quantify the emission‐cost reduction trade‐off

open access: yesJournal of Industrial Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Power‐to‐X (PtX) processes allow for increased utilization of renewable energy in sectors like transportation, heat, and industry, where greenhouse gas emissions are hard to abate or irreducible. However, due to significantly higher production costs than conventional alternatives and the requirement of lower greenhouse gas footprints, PtX ...
