Steel and Duralumin Beams

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1940
ALTHOUGH it is common knowledge that a steel beam may be replaced by a geometrically similar duralumin beam, with a resultant saving in weight, it is not so generally known that such a procedure invariably involves the use of an unnecessarily large quantity of the light‐alloy, and is, therefore, wasteful.

The natural selection of steel beams

International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1989
A very simple optimization method based on the mechanism of Darwinian evolution is presented. The method is discussed by considering a problem of cutting beams in an optimal manner.

Effects of different steel-concrete composite slabs on rigid steel beam-column connection under a column removal scenario

Journal of constructional steel research, 2019
Trapezoidal and Reentrant are two ordinary deck profiles in modern steel-concrete composite floor system in China. The progressive collapse resistance of rigid steel beam-column connections with these two different composite deck profiles was ...

A comparative analysis of material costs among a steel beam, steel-concrete and steel-timber composite beams

Inżynieria i Budownictwo
In this paper the material costs of beams made of different materials were compared. Steel and steel-concrete composite beams were compared with a steel-timber composite beam. In the case of a ceiling composed of beams and slabs, steel-timber composite beam had the most favourable bending resistance to mass ratio.

Experimental investigation on shear behavior of steel beam-to-CFST column connections with irregular panel zone

Engineering structures, 2018
This paper presents an experimental investigation on the seismic behavior of a novel steel-concrete composite beam-to-column connections reinforced by outer-annular-stiffener.

Numerical study of rigid steel beam-column joints under impact loading

Journal of constructional steel research, 2018
This paper presents the numerical simulations of rigid steel beam-column joints under impact loads. In the model, beams, columns and bolts are simulated by solid elements and surface-to-surface contact pairs are defined to take account of the ...

Analytical modeling on collapse resistance of steel beam-concrete slab composite substructures subjected to side column loss

Engineering structures, 2018
This paper proposes an energy-based method to determine the structural responses of steel beam-concrete slab composite substructures under side column removal scenarios. A tri-linear resistance-displacement curve is proposed.

A LIMIT MODEL IN THE ANALYSIS OF STEEL-CONCRETE BEAMS

Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2000
The problem of two bodies joined along their common surface by a thin soft third material having a periodic micro-structure has been considered. After identifying the two natural smallness parameters ε (which measures the thickness and the softness of the intermediate body) and η (which is the period of the micro-structure), the limits of the solution ...

Composite Beams of Steel and Timber

IABSE Reports, 2017

Composite steel-concrete buildings are commonplace, but they are incompatible with low-carbon construction technologies. This is because the manufacture of the cement used in the flooring slabs, which is castin-situaround headed stud connectors, is associated with the production significant CO2 emissions, and deconstruction ...
