Ceramic Particle‐Reinforced Medium‐Entropy Alloys With Outstanding Mechanical Properties Prepared by Novel Micro‐LPBF

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative medium entropy alloy (MEA) composite material was fabricated via micro laser powder bed fusion (μ‐LPBF) with appropriate nano‐ceramic particles doping and exhibited markedly improved overall performance, including synergistically enhanced strength and ductility, increased hardness and compressive strength, improved wear resistance and ...

Virtual testing against experiment for post-buckling behaviour of coldformed steel columns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Cold-formed steel has already started to replace hot rolled companions in some structural applications. Advantages of cold-formed steel originate from its high strength over weight ratio and ease of manufacturing and construction compared to hot rolled

Role of Histidine‐Containing Peptoids in Accelerating the Kinetics of Calcite Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic histidine‐containing peptoids mimic carbonic anhydrase (CA) to accelerate calcite step growth. In the presence of Zn2+, they promote the deprotonation of HCO3−, the desolvation of Ca2+, and the reorganization of interfacial hydration layers, thereby reducing the activation barrier for calcite growth.

Influence of Red Mud Proportion on Circular Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular Short Columns

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2020
Tests on twelve circular concrete-filled steel tube stub columns with mixed red mud and three circular concrete-filled steel tube stub columns to investigate the influence of the mixed proportion of red mud on the mechanical behavior of axial compressive

Behaviour and design of hexagonal concrete-filled steel tubular short columns under axial compression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns have frequently been utilised in the construction of mid-rise and high-rise buildings as they offer smaller cross-sectional size to load carrying capacity ratio than ordinary reinforced concrete or steel ...

Laser‐Microscribed Glass Enables Surface‐Microfluidics‐Facilitated, Affordable, Rapid Cancer Diagnosis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A transparent, laser‐microscribed glass platform enables cancer diagnosis within 1 h—much faster than histology, which takes days, and free from the chemical or contrast risks of MRI or CT scans. The antibody‐functionalized rough glass surface captures viable cancer cells directly from suspension, allowing instant optical readout and offering a rapid ...
