Carbon Dots: An Emerging Frontier for Green and Sustainable Civil Engineering Materials

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, Volume 9, Issue 4, July 2026.
Traditional civil engineering materials (CE materials) are usually involved with high‐energy consumption during manufacturing, significant maintenance costs, and substantial environmental impacts throughout their life cycles. The progress of nanotechnology is catalyzing a green and sustainable transformation within the field.

Corrosion and Degradation of Materials in Marine Environments: Implications for Coastal and Offshore Infrastructure

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2026.
This study presents a failure‐oriented analysis of corrosion in marine infrastructure, linking degradation mechanisms to crack initiation, fatigue propagation, and structural failure. A unified framework is proposed to connect environmental exposure, material degradation, and reliability, supporting failure prediction, inspection planning, and life ...

Effects of Chemical Surface Treatments on the Structural and Durability Performance of Coffee Husk Reinforced Laterite Blocks

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2026.
The efficacy of combined chemical treatments is clearly shown in this study to greatly improve the structural strength, bonding, and durability of coffee husk‐reinforced laterite blocks. The combined NaOH and silane treatment is the most effective method of improving the strength and water resistance of earthen construction materials.

Polymer‐Based Passive Radiative Cooling A Structural Design Perspective

open access: yesEcoMat, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2026.
This work categorizes structure‐oriented design strategies for polymer‐based passive radiative cooling into fibrous, porous, photonic/meta, and hybrid composite architectures. Each structural motif is shown to regulate solar scattering, infrared emissivity, and heat transport through distinct geometry‐driven mechanisms, offering a systematic pathway to

Quantifying Model Selection Uncertainty in Structural Analysis: Methodology and Application

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, Volume 55, Issue 9, Page 1828-1844, 25 July 2026.
ABSTRACT With increasing focus on complex engineering systems under rare events, computational models are critical for predictions due to the scarcity or absence of data. However, selecting an appropriate model can be challenging. Using a single model without available test calibration could result in significant bias in performance predictions. A case

Mechanical Properties of Steel Fiber-Reinforced Concrete

open access: yesJournal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2007
This paper presents the results from an experimental program and an analytical assessment of the influence of addition of fibers on mechanical properties of concrete. Models derived based on the regression analysis of 60 test data for various mechanical properties of steel fiber-reinforced concrete have been presented.

Design Aspects on Steel Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Pavements

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2008
A numerical study on the fracture behavior of steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) slabs on grade for industrial pavements is presented. Finite element analyses have been carried out by using a commercial finite element code where user subroutines based on nonlinear fracture mechanics have been implemented to describe the progressive cracking ...

Steel fiber reinforced concrete

Materials Science and Engineering, 1976
Abstract The task of evaluating what is unknown about fiber reinforced cement or concrete is difficult. One should identify the important aspects which must be investigated, and to a large extent this becomes the opinion of the writer. However, it does appear that more thinking is needed in respect of the details of the basic mechanics of ductile ...

Distribution and Orientation of Fibers in Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete

ACI Materials Journal, 1990
Measurements were made on the number of fibers per unit cross-sectional area in steel fiber reinforced concrete specimens incorporating various volume fractions of fibers of different types. Based on statistical evaluation of the measured values, the differences in fiber concentrations at different locations on the cross section were assessed ...
