Nanowires Reinforce Oriented Macroporous Aerogels for Rapid Uranium Removal from Acidic Radioactive Wastewater

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A “reinforced concrete” structural aerogel with directional microchannels is engineered for rapid uranium capture. The interconnected architecture enables ultrafast water permeation, and the nanowire reinforcement yields a 70‐fold increase in mechanical strength.

Mechanical performance of concrete made of steel fibers from tire waste

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2019
Currently, the disposal of used tires is a worldwide challenge, due to their non-degradability. Therefore, recycling has become a potential solution for managing such waste. During recycling, materials such as rubber and steel are recovered from the used

POSITIVE INTERACTION OF INDUSTRIAL AND RECYCLED STEEL FIBRES IN FIBRE REINFORCED CONCRETE

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2014
In line with current ”green” transport initiatives, Croatia plans to build over the next investment period a high speed railway line which will connect central Croatia and its capital with coastal regions of the country. According to design documents, the track system will be built using ballastless concrete solutions.

A Blood‐Derived Factor Rescues ALS: Platelet Factor 4 Activates OPTN‐Dependent Autophagy to Clear SOD1 Aggregates Independently of PINK1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Systemic platelet factor 4 (PF4) is significantly depleted in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Peripheral PF4 replenishment restores central proteostasis by driving OPTN‐dependent, PINK1‐independent selective autophagy in motor neurons. This intervention effectively clears toxic SOD1 aggregates, blunts glial activation, and preserves neuromuscular ...

Flexural Capacity Prediction Model For Steel Fibre-Reinforced Concrete Beams

open access: yesInternational Journal of Concrete Structures and Materials, 2021
Steel fibre (SF) reinforcement has been shown to improve the ductility of high strength concrete (HSC), which is known to be brittle. Research conducted to date on steel fibre reinforced concrete and its effects have emphasised post-failure performance ...

VlPAG/DRN Microglia Drive Neuropathic Pain‐Induced Depression via a Defined Neuroimmune Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Peripheral nerve injury (SNI) induces neuropathic pain, activates midbrain microglia, and triggers an NLRP3–IL‐1β–dependent inflammatory cascade. IL‐1β signals through IL‐1R1 on vlPAG/DRN VGLUT2+ neurons (vlPAG/DRNGlu), inducing hyperexcitability and driving the vlPAG/DRNGlu→BNSTGABA circuit to produce the affective component of neuropathic pain ...

Structural testing of compression members reinforced with FRP bars [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Civil Engineering
The Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) bars are increasingly used as an alternative to steel reinforcement in concrete structures. Their wide applicability is due to their properties such as high strength, resistance to corrosion, easy cutting, etc. For many

Safety of Sodium‐Ion Batteries: Evaluation and Perspective from Component Materials to Cells, Modules, and Packs

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review provides a bottom‐up evaluation of sodium‐ion battery safety, linking material degradation mechanisms, cell engineering parameters, and module/pack assembly. It emphasizes that understanding intrinsic material stability and establishing coordinated engineering control across hierarchical levels are vital for preventing degradation coupling ...
