3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Steel Fibre Reinforcing Characteristics on the Size Reduction of Fly Ash Based Concrete

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2014
The behavior of glued steel fibres in high strength concrete with size reduction properties of concrete has been attempted. Glued steel fibres with both ends hooked having length to diameter ratio of 70 was added at a dosage level of 0.5% to 1.5% by ...

On the tear resistance of skin. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Tear resistance is of vital importance in the various functions of skin, especially protection from predatorial attack. Here, we mechanistically quantify the extreme tear resistance of skin and identify the underlying structural features, which lead to ...

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries

Shear and flexural behaviour of prestressed and non-prestressed plain and SFRC concrete beams

open access: yesJournal of King Saud University: Engineering Sciences, 2017
The present study aims at improving the shear and flexural strength of the concrete by the addition of steel fibres. Also the study investigates the effect of prestressing on the shear and flexural strength of concrete.

Fibres for enhancing of the bond capacity between GFRP rebar and concrete [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The effect of steel fibres (SF) and macro-polypropylene fibres (PPA) on the bond capacity between GFRP rebar and concrete has been studied in this work. A novel method using the equivalent bond strength to evaluate the bond toughness is proposed.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
