Seismic Damage Assessment of Steel Frames

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1998
The seismic damage analysis of steel frames based on the use of global evaluation indices is addressed. A general procedure is proposed aimed at estimating the degree of damage induced by severe earthquakes in structures not supplied with monitoring systems. Special reference is made to the Park-Ang, McCabe-Hall, and plastic fatigue indices.

Steel Frame Stability

1992
Collapse of frames is related not to a bifurcational phenomenon, but rather to divergence of equilibrium. The up-to-date stability analysis specifications are based on the analysis of so-called imperfect models.

Braced Steel Frame System

2018
In this chapter, the braced frame system and its effects on building systems is demonstrated. The first section of this chapter focus on the behavior of the braced frame system subjected to gravity and lateral load. The structure is analyzed by approximate methods and the virtual work method is used to explain and calculate the frame’s displacement ...

A Prestressed Steel Space Frame

Engineering Journal, 1967
The St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, Niles, Ill., completed in early 1966, reflects the contemporary trend toward circular houses of worship. The interior layout is arranged so that the priest and altar are virtually surrounded by the parishioners.

Effect of Steel Moment-Frame Connections on Robustness of Steel Frames Against Progressive Collapse

The effect on connection performance of the potentially large catenary forc-es that can develop during progressive collapse has not yet been adequately studied in the literature. While undergoing large deformation, the load-resistance mechanism shifts from the traditional flexural mechanism to a ca-tenary mechanism, and the tensile axial force becomes ...
