Steel Frame Stability Design

Engineering Journal, 1995
Many stability evaluation methods have been proposed over the last thirty years. The SSRC lists five specific methods of analyzing steel frames for stability: the effective-length concept; second-order, inelastic analysis; the PD method; the Merchant-Rankine formula; and the moment amplification method.

Seismic Damage Assessment of Steel Frames

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1998
The seismic damage analysis of steel frames based on the use of global evaluation indices is addressed. A general procedure is proposed aimed at estimating the degree of damage induced by severe earthquakes in structures not supplied with monitoring systems. Special reference is made to the Park-Ang, McCabe-Hall, and plastic fatigue indices.

Shell Shapes Framed in Steel

Engineering Journal, 1965
In considering the use of steel framing for shell shapes, ones attention turns immediately to the problems of detailing members and designing joints. The author had occasion to consider these problems while doing the structural design for the Johnson Wax Pavilion at the New York Worlds Fair.

A Prestressed Steel Space Frame

Engineering Journal, 1967
The St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, Niles, Ill., completed in early 1966, reflects the contemporary trend toward circular houses of worship. The interior layout is arranged so that the priest and altar are virtually surrounded by the parishioners.
