Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Emerging steel frames with Fe-SMA U-shaped dampers for enhancing seismic resilience

open access: yesJournal of Infrastructure Preservation and Resilience, 2023
Post-earthquake financial loss of structures induced by residual inter-story deformation (RID) has been recently noticed and various strategies have been proposed. A newly-emerged energy-dissipation material, namely, iron-based shape-memory-alloy (Fe-SMA)

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Improving the Structural Reliability of Steel Frames Using Posttensioned Connections

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
In this paper, various moment-resisting steel frames (MRSFs) are subjected to 30 narrow-band motions scaled at different ground motion intensity levels in terms of spectral acceleration at first mode of vibration SaT1 in order to perform incremental ...

High strength steel in seismic resistant building frames (HSS-SERF) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The aim of “HSS-SERF” project was to investigate and evaluate the seismic performance of dual-steel building frames, realized from two different steel grades: Mild Carbon Steel (MCS) and High Strength Steel (HSS).

Baseline Regional Cholinergic Denervation Predicts Cognitive Trajectories in Moderate Parkinson Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Cognitive decline is a disabling and variable feature of Parkinson disease (PD). While cholinergic system degeneration is linked to cognitive impairments in PD, most prior research reported cross‐sectional associations. We aimed to fill this gap by investigating whether baseline regional cerebral vesicular acetylcholine transporter ...

SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.

Steel beam–column joint with discontinuous vertical reinforcing bars

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2017
The authors have previously proposed steel beam–column connections for precast concrete frames. The steel–concrete composite frames combined the advantages of the fast assembly of steel and the low cost of concrete structures.
