The Stainless Steel Piston: Surgical Indications and Results

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1965
In recent months much attention has centered on the use of piston-shaped prosthetic devices constructed of Teflon, steel, and Teflon-steel in surgery for clinical otosclerosis.1,2The surgical philosophy determining the use of these prostheses differs with the clinical experience of the surgeon.

Holographic investigation of the expansion-control characteristics of steel inserts in pistons

Experimental Mechanics, 1991
The expansion-control characteristics of steel inserts in the open-sleeve type of diesel-engine pistons were investigated using holographic interferometry. The holographic measurements were compared with the predictions of a finite-elements model of the piston.

Research on Design Development and Modification of a Steel Piston in a Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2023
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The thermal and mechanical loads of the engine rise dramatically with the increase in engine power density, which places higher demands on the design of the piston. In this paper, the design development of a steel piston for a marine

Fabrication of piston pins made of a novel aluminium-alloyed UHC steel

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2019
The vehicle industry strives for weight reduction in order to reduce fuel consumption. This leads to the development of new steel grades that are enriched with light metals, such as aluminium. In addition to the reduction in density, this means that the properties of conventional steels need to be at least replaced or ideally even surpassed.

New MAHLE steel piston and pin coating system for reduced TCO of CV engines

SAE International Journal of Commercial Vehicles, 2016
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Total cost of ownership is requiring further improvements to piston friction reduction as well as additional gains in thermal efficiency. A piston compression height reduction in combination with carbon based piston pin coatings is enabling advancements in both demands.

Cracking of High Strength Steel Piston Rod During Chrome Plating

2019
Abstract A few Cr-Mo steel piston rods from different production batches were found identically cracked in the eye end near the radius after chrome plating and baking treatment. Two of them cracked in the plating stage itself instantly broke on slight tapping. Cracking initiated from the outer base surface of the forked eye end.

Wear and Seizure of Aluminium-Silicon Piston Alloys in Reciprocating Motion against Steel

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 1995
Aluminium-silicon alloy pins were dry slid in unidirectional and reciprocating sliding against steel counterfaces in a normal pressure range of 0.39–26 M Pa and a sliding speed range of 0.6–1.8 m/s. Changing the mode of sliding from unidirectional to reciprocating as well as an increase in reciprocating speed were found to affect wear and seizure ...
