Numerical Modelling of Double-Steel Plate Composite Shear Walls [PDF]

open access: yesComputation, 2017
Double-steel plate concrete composite shear walls are being used for nuclear plants and high-rise buildings. They consist of thick concrete walls, exterior steel faceplates serving as reinforcement and shear connectors, which guarantee the composite action between the two different materials.

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...

STRIP MODEL FOR STEEL PLATE SHEAR WALLS WITH BEAM-CONNECTED WEB PLATES [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 7th International Conference on Computational Methods in Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering (COMPDYN 2015), 2017
Abstract Steel plate shear walls comprise web plates connected to beams and columns, also referred to as vertical and horizontal boundary elements, respectively. When loaded laterally, web plates induce high flexural and axial demands in the columns due to the development of an inclined tension field.

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

Influence of Geometric Design on Mechanical Performance of Auxetic Metastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Strategic geometric reinforcement transforms auxetic performance. This study evaluates 3D‐printed arrowhead metastructures, revealing that a modified design with local ring reinforcement suppresses premature failure to achieve superior energy absorption and structural efficiency.

Characteristics of the wall-frame interaction in steel plate shear walls with perforated infill plates

open access: yesScientia Iranica, 2021
The non-linear response of steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) with perforated infill plates are studied by considering the interaction effect between the frame and the infill plate. A number of single and 14-stories SPSWs with solid and perforated infill panels with different perforation ratios are studied numerically. The results are utilized to discuss (
