An experimental analysis of territory size in juvenile steelhead trout

Animal Behaviour, 2000
I experimentally manipulated levels of food abundance and density of competitors to determine how these factors influence the territory size of juvenile steelhead trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss. Steelhead trout were held in artificial stream channels and I followed cohorts that were fed at one of three levels of food abundance and stocked at one of three ...

Coronary degeneration in sexually mature rainbow and steelhead trout, Salmo Gairdneri

Atherosclerosis, 1978
Correlation of coronary arteriosclerosis with sexual maturation was found in rainbow and steelhead trout. All sexually mature nonanadromous rainbow, precocial male steelhead, and adult spawning steelhead had myointimal hyperplasia but it was infrequent in immature juveniles.

Ecosystem indicators of marine survival in Puget Sound steelhead trout

Progress in Oceanography, 2020
Abstract Understanding ecosystem drivers of fish stock performance is essential to improving conservation and management. We used a hypothesis-driven approach to identify potential ecosystem indicators and developed a retrospective analysis using regression models of steelhead trout marine survival in Puget Sound, an urban estuary in Washington State,

Seasonal Changes in Osmoregulation, Cortisol, and Cortisol Receptor Activity in the Gills of Parr/Smolt of Steelhead Trout and Steelhead-Rainbow Trout Hybrids, Oncorhynchus mykiss

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1994
Steelhead and hybrid trout (rainbow trout male, steelhead female) presmolts and smolts, Oncorhynchus mykiss, exposed to 30/1000 seawater (SW) for 24 hr manifested progressively lower plasma sodium values from December to May. The increase in plasma sodium after 24 hr in SW diminished significantly after March, with the hybrids (which were heavier in ...

The Effects of Angling and Hatchery Trout on the Abundance of Juvenile Steelhead Trout

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1973
Abstract We assessed the effects of angling and planted trout on the abundance of wild juvenile steelhead trout in a rearing stream with underwater censusing of abundance and angling for steelhead in sections with and without planted trout. A large proportion of the juvenile steelhead were removed by angling.

Molecular Markers Distinguish Coastal Cutthroat Trout from Coastal Rainbow Trout/Steelhead and Their Hybrids

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 2002
Abstract A major cause of population declines among interior cutthroat trout subspecies Oncorhynchus clarki ssp.is hybridization with introduced rainbow trout O. mykiss ssp. Coastal cutthroat trout O. c. clarki have also experienced population declines in recent decades and are known to hybridize with coastal rainbow trout/steelhead O. m.

Upstream Movement of Residual Hatchery Steelhead into Areas Containing Bull Trout and Cutthroat Trout

North American Journal of Fisheries Management, 2001
Abstract Hatchery-reared steelhead Oncorhynchus mykiss that do not emigrate as smolts shortly after release may harm wild fish communities through ecological interactions. We used systematic, stratified snorkeling surveys to document the relative abundance of wild rainbow trout (nonanadromous O. mykiss), bull trout Salvelinus confluentus, and westslope

Chylomicra in the serum of postprandial steelhead trout (Salmo gairdnerii)

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1985
1. 1. Postprandial effects on serum lipoprotein distribution were determined in juvenile steelhead trout (Salmo gairdnerii). 2. 2. As many as eight lipoproteins were detected, including proteins of α, α2, and β mobility, as well as up to three discrete proteins with albumin-like mobility. 3. 3.

USE of Ozone To Control Ceratomyxosis in Steelhead Trout

Ozone: Science & Engineering, 1987
Abstract Tests conducted with a pilot scale ozone system to control the infective stage of the fish Pathogen Ceratomvya shasta found the minimum effective ozone dose to be a CT value (ozone residual x minutes of retention) of 1.23. Mortality of summer steelhead reared to, term on ozonated and raw river water was 1.4% and 81.2% permil; respectively ...

Production of Juvenile Steelhead Trout in a Freshwater Impoundment

Ecological Monographs, 1967
The purpose of this study was to investigate the population dynamics of juvenile steelhead trout (Salmo gairdneri Richardson) in an artificial freshwater impoundment of 13.3 hectares situated in Western Oregon. Data were collected from May 1962 until May 1963.
