Supplement to L2 Estimates for the ∂ Operator on a Stein Manifold [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
A revised version of the L2 estimate of my previous note and an alternative proof of the approximation theorem on a Stein manifold are ...

Shifting the paradigm: An Indigenous knowledge‐based stewardship plan to replenish boreal caribou in Athabasca Chipewyan and Mikisew Cree First Nations' homelands

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Indigenous Peoples in northern Alberta, including Dené and Cree of the Athabasca Chipewyan and Mikisew Cree First Nations (ACFN and MCFN), have been using Indigenous laws and stewardship principles to care for their homelands for thousands of years. Since ACFN and MCFN signed Treaty 8 with Canada in 1899, Alberta's land management policies and

The Hidden Costs of Coffee Production in the Eastern African Value Chains

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT There is increasing recognition that significant hidden costs associated with agrifood systems are not reflected in market prices. Coffee is among the three most traded agricultural commodities in the world and supports the livelihoods of more than 30 million smallholder households.

Noncritical holomorphic functions on Stein manifolds

open access: yesActa Mathematica, 2003
Acta Math, to appear. Remark 1. The foliation version of Theorem 4.1 was stated incorrectly in versions 1-3 of the preprint. Remark 2. Preprint versions 1-4 contained an informal statement (without proof) regarding the multi-parametric case of Theorem II.

Monitoring Quality of Mafia‐Connected Accountants

open access: yesJournal of Accounting Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We investigate the monitoring quality of accountants with ties to the Mafia in their role as auditors for “clean” firms—those with no known ties to organized crime. Using a proprietary government database, we identify Italian firms with alleged ties to the Mafia through their executives, directors, or shareholders.

Revenue Recognition Comparability and Analysts’ Disclosure Processing Costs

open access: yesJournal of Accounting Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT I examine whether the FASB's revenue recognition guidance under ASC 606 influences revenue comparability across firms and industries and whether revenue comparability reduces analysts’ disclosure processing costs. I extract firms’ revenue policy disclosures from 10‐K filings to measure their textual similarity and compare revenue policies ...

On the algebraicization of certain Stein manifolds

open access: yes, 2000
To every real analytic Riemannian manifold M there is associated a complex structure on a neighborhood of the zero section in the real tangent bundle of M. This structure can be uniquely specified in several ways, and is referred to as a Grauert tube.

A Tale of Two Market Disciplines: How Does Bank Financial Misconduct Affect Peer Banks in the Local Deposit Market

open access: yesJournal of Accounting Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the spillover effect of bank financial misconduct on the uninsured deposits of peer banks within local markets. We first validate that misconduct banks experience an increase in deposit spreads and a corresponding outflow of deposits following the misconduct. We then show local peer banks exhibit divergent deposit responses,

Parametric jet interpolation for Stein manifolds with the density property

open access: yes, 2019
Given a Stein manifold with the density property, we show that under a suitable topological condition it is possible to prescribe derivatives at a finite number of points to automorphisms depending holomorphically on a Stein parameter.
