Stein estimation of Poisson process intensities
International audienceWe construct superefficient estimators of Stein type for the intensity parameter λ > 0 of a Poisson process, using integration by parts and superharmonic functionals on the Poisson ...

Stability of Matrix Polytopes with a Dominant Vertex and Implications for System Dynamics
The paper considers the class of matrix polytopes with a dominant vertex and the class of uncertain dynamical systems defined in discrete time and continuous time, respectively, by such polytopes. We analyze the standard concept of stability in the sense

The Stein–Strömberg covering theorem in metric spaces
In \cite{NaTa} Naor and Tao extended to the metric setting the $O(d \log d)$ bounds given by Stein and Strömberg for Lebesgue measure in $\mathbb{R}^d$, deriving these bounds first from a localization result, and second, from a random Vitali lemma. Here we show that the Stein-Strömberg original argument can also be adapted to the metric setting, giving

A Novel NeighShrink Correction Algorithm in Image Denoising
Image denoising as a pre-processing stage is a used to preserve details, edges and global contrast without blurring the corrupted image. Among state-of-the-art algorithms, block shrinkage denoising is an effective and compatible method to suppress ...

IN THIS ISSUE: Food Systems Resilience
In this combined spring and summer issue of JAFSCD we highlight the growing interest in food systems resilience, as depicted on our cover by the design of the Hyperions project by Vincent Callebaut Architectures.

Free C+ actions on affine threefolds [PDF]
We study algebraic actions of the additive group C+ on an affine threefold X and prove a smoothness property for the quotient morphism X -< X//C+. Then, following Shulim Kaliman, we give a proof of the conjecture that every free C+ action on affine 3 ...

The Kerzman–Stein operator for piecewise continuously differentiable regions
The Kerzman–Stein operator is the skew-hermitian part of the Cauchy operator defined with respect to an unweighted hermitian inner product on a rectifiable curve.

Cohomologie des espaces de Stein p-adiques
International audienceWe compute the p-adic étale and the pro-etale cohomologies of the Drinfeld half-space of any dimension. The main input is a new comparison theorem for the p-adic pro-étale cohomology of p-adic Stein spaces. On calcule les ...
