Molecules in Stellar Atmospheres

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1997
The effects of molecules on model stellar atmospheres are briefly reviewed. Molecular diagnostics of stellar fundamental parameters and of atmospheric structure are discussed, and the presently emerging "ISO picture" of the outer regions of stars is commented upon.

The stellar atmospheres problem

Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, 1971
Abstract This paper discusses the construction of model stellar atmospheres placing particular stress on the mathematical methods used. The basic equations and assumptions of the problem are presented. Techniques which reduce the transfer equation to a set of linear equations are developed.

Cool Stellar Atmospheres

2002
We give an overview about the state-of-the-art in cool stellar (and sub-stellar) atmosphere simulations. Recent developments in numerical methods and parallel supercomputers, as well as in the quality of input data such as atomic and molecular line lists have led to substantial improvements in the quality of synthetic spectra when compared to multi ...

Motions in Stellar Atmospheres

Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1959
It has become increasingly obvious that we should not regard stellar atmospheres as homogeneous and static but must study special effects of forces other than gravity if we are to gain any satisfactorily complete comprehension of the general behavior of these atmospheres.

Diffusion in stellar atmospheres [PDF]

open access: possibleEAS Publications Series, 2005
A review of some of the most important studies of the past several decades pertaining to the study of atomic diffusion in stellar atmospheres is presented. A brief description of various studies of radiative accelerations and diffusion calculations in stellar atmospheres is given.
