Introduction to Stellar Dynamics
2021The study of stellar dynamics is experiencing an exciting new wave of interest thanks to observational campaigns and the ready availability of powerful computers. Whilst its relevance includes many areas of astrophysics, from the structure of the Milky Way to dark matter halos, few texts are suited to advanced students.

The stellar dynamics of virialised systems is analysed within the search of undamped oscillations. In the case of a time-dependent Hamiltonian qualified after a generic Terzic'-Kandrup potential, the Emrakov-Lewis-Leach invariant is specified; as a result, an infinite set of conservation laws defining constants of motion is demonstrated to be obtained.

The Vlasov–Poisson System for Stellar Dynamics in Spaces of Constant Curvature
, 2015We obtain a natural extension of the Vlasov–Poisson system for stellar dynamics to spaces of constant Gaussian curvature $${\kappa \ne 0}$$κ≠0: the unit sphere $${\mathbb S^2}$$S2, for $${\kappa > 0}$$κ>0, and the unit hyperbolic sphere $${\mathbb H^2 ...

The dynamic spectrum, a three dimensional record of the radio intensity as a function both of time and frequency, has long been used as a probe of plasma processes in the solar corona. Beginning with the work of Wild and McCready (1950) dynamic spectroscopy has been used to distinguish between the multitude of radio wave emitting phenomena which occur ...

Collisionless Stellar Dynamics
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1971Collisionless Stellar Dynamics deals with Stellar Systems for times small with respect to the relaxation time. Thus it disregards completely individual encounters between stars. Our basic equation is the collisionless Boltzmann equation $$ \frac{{\partial f}}{{\partial t}} + \bar v \cdot \frac{{\partial f}}{{\partial \bar x}} - \frac{{\partial V}}{{

Statistical Hypotheses in Stellar Dynamics
Physical Review, 1946This paper starts with a short review of the usual methods of stellar dynamics and analyzes the underlying hypotheses. The most successful approach to stellar dynamics has been the one which neglects interactions between nearby stars (because they are weak) and takes into consideration the motion of stars in a smooth field of force only, produced by ...

Stellar Dynamics and Molecular Dynamics: Possible Analogies
2003In stellar dynamics one is accostumed to deal with the Lynden-Bell distribution, which presents two peculiar characteristics: a) it resembles the quantum Fermi-Dirac distribution, and b) describes a state of metaequilibrium, that is expected to evolve on much longer time scales to a standard Maxwell-Boltzmann equilibrium.
