Interferometric Stellar Oscillation Spectrometry
SPIE Proceedings, 1986The Michelson Interferometric Stellar Oscillation Spectrometer (ISOS) has been developed and used over the past several years. It has the capability of measuring the relative radial velocity curve of a bright star to an accuracy of ~1ms−1 or less after a few nights on a moderately sized telescope, This is barely sufficient to detect oscillations in ...

Solar oscillations, stellar oscillations and cosmology
Nature, 1980Two implications of the recent observations1 of low angular, high radial overtones of the whole Sun are reported here. The first implication is that other main sequence stars are likely to be oscillating in similar modes and that precision spectroscopy as well as photometry from space is capable of detecting these oscillations, thereby extending ...

Theoretical Underpinnings: Stellar Oscillations
2017This chapter shows how the oscillations of a star are related to its structure. It also describes some of the important properties of stellar oscillations that allow us to use seismic data to determine stellar properties. Stellar oscillations are the response of a star to a mechanical disturbance, and thus the equations of stellar oscillations are ...

High Frequency Stellar Oscillations
1971Time-series data for 14 stars in the list of Eggen and Greenstein have been used to compute their power spectra, which confirm previously found quiescency in the 4 to 700 sec period range. Additionally, characteristics of the continuous power spectra are considered.

Multiperiodic Stellar Oscillations
1990The present observational and theoretical status of the multiperiodic stars is reviewed. Focusing mostly on the doubly-periodic pulsation we emphasize the important role of this type of pulsation in the estimation of the basic stellar parameters. Classes of possible doubly-periodic stellar pulsations are discussed in the framework of the amplitude ...

Non-radial Stellar Oscillations
2012We use spherical coordinates r, ϑ, ϕ and describe the velocity of a mass element by a vector v having the components v r , v ϑ , v ϕ . For the radial pulsations treated in the foregoing sections, the velocity has only one non-vanishing component, v r , which depends only on r.

Oscillations in Young Stellar Objects
International Astronomical Union Colloquium, 2002AbstractWe report the discovery of periodicities in the light curve of the Herbig Ae star V346 Ori. We interpret these variations as the superposition of at least two signals with periods P1=42±6 min and P2=68±12 min resulting from stellar oscillations.

Hydrodynamic stability and stellar oscillations
Pramana, 2011Chandrasekhar’s monograph on Hydrodynamic and hydromagnetic stability, published in 1961, is a standard reference on linear stability theory. It gives a detailed account of stability of fluid flow in a variety of circumstances, including convection, stability of Couette flow, Rayleigh–Taylor instability, Kelvin–Helmholtz instability as well as the Jean’

Solar and Stellar Oscillations
1981We try to explain in simple words what a stellar oscillation is, what kind of restoring forces and excitation mechanisms can be responsible for its occurence, what kind of questions the theoretician asks to the observer and what kind of tools the latter is using to look for the answers, A selected review of the most striking results obtained in the ...
