The Stellar Population of M17

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2008
The stellar content of M17 has been investigated by multicolor photometry and spectroscopy. Various independent estimates yield a distance of 2.1 ± 0.2 kpc. The ratio of total-to-selective extinction is R = 3.9. Within a projected area of 3.6 × 3.7 pc, there are several thousand stars.

Stellar populations of galaxies in the ALHAMBRA survey up to $z \sim 1$. II. Stellar content of quiescent galaxies within the dust-corrected stellar mass$-$colour and the $UVJ$ colour$-$colour diagrams

open access: yes, 2019
Our aim is to determine the distribution of stellar population parameters (extinction, age, metallicity, and star formation rate) of quiescent galaxies within the rest-frame stellar mass$-$colour and $UVJ$ colour$-$colour diagrams corrected for ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Metal-poor Stars in the MW Disk: Resonant Cooling of Vertical Oscillations of Halo Stars in Barred Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Using numerical simulations of a barred disk galaxy embedded in nonspinning and spinning dark matter (DM) halos, we present a novel mechanism of “cooling” the vertical oscillations of DM particles, which acquire disk kinematics.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Structural evolution of quiescent galaxies at intermediate redshifts at UV and red rest-frame wavelengths

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We derived structural parameters for a mass-limited sample (M★ > 1010 M⊙) of 27 000 quiescent galaxies with 0.2

Chemical Yields from the First Stars

open access: yes, 1999
We examine the dependence of stellar yields on the metallicity Z of the stellar population. This effect may be important for the very first chemical enrichment from Population III stars, at very low Z.

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Detection of a Spatially Extended Stellar Population in M33: A Shallow Stellar Halo?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We analyze the outer regions of M33, beyond 15 kpc in projected distance from its center, using Subaru/Hyper Suprime-Cam multicolor imaging. We identify red giant branch (RGB) stars and red clump (RC) stars using the surface-gravity-sensitive NB515 ...
