Measuring the Sun's motion with stellar streams [PDF]
We present a method for measuring the Sun's motion using the proper motions of Galactic halo star streams. The method relies on the fact that the motion of the stars perpendicular to a stream from a low-mass progenitor is close to zero when viewed from a non-rotating frame at rest with respect to the Galaxy, and that the deviation from zero is due to ...

Multiple Components of the Jhelum Stellar Stream [PDF]
Abstract In simple models of the Milky Way, tidally disrupting satellites produce long and thin—nearly one-dimensional—stellar streams. Using astrometric data from the Gaia second data release and photometry from the Dark Energy Survey, we demonstrate that the Jhelum stream, a stellar stream in the inner halo, is a two-dimensional ...

The Information Content in Cold Stellar Streams [PDF]
Abstract Cold stellar streams—produced by tidal disruptions of globular clusters—are long-lived, coherent dynamical features in the halo of the Milky Way. They hold the promise of delivering precise information about the gravitational potential, including constraints on the shape of the dark matter halo.

Stellar streams as gravitational experiments [PDF]
Tidal streams of disrupting dwarf galaxies orbiting around their host galaxy offer a unique way to constrain the shape of galactic gravitational potentials. Such streams can be used as “leaning tower” gravitational experiments on galactic scales. The most well-motivated modification of gravity proposed as an alternative to dark matter on galactic ...

On the Stability of Tidal Streams [PDF]
We explore the stability of tidal streams to perturbations, motivated by recent claims that the clumpy structure of the stellar streams surrounding the globular cluster Palomar 5 are the result of gravitational instability.

Phlegethon, a Nearby 75°-long Retrograde Stellar Stream [PDF]
Abstract We report the discovery of a 75°-long stellar stream in the Gaia DR2 catalog, found using the new STREAMFINDER algorithm. The structure is probably the remnant of a now fully disrupted globular cluster, which lies ≈3.8 kpc away from the Sun in the direction of the Galactic bulge and possesses highly retrograde motion.

Search for Stellar Streams in The Galactic Halo From Gaia DR2, GALAH DR2, RAVE DR5 and LAMOST DR4 Data [PDF]
Stellar streams are stars which are trapped in the same potensial caused by dynamical resonance or tidal force. We aim to analyze kinematic sub- structures (streams) in the Galactic halo by V vs √ U2+ 2V 2 planes of Arifyanto & Fuchs.

The kinematic footprints of five stellar streams in Andromeda's halo [PDF]
(abridged) We present a spectroscopic analysis of five stellar streams (`A', `B', `Cr', `Cp' and `D') as well as the extended star cluster, EC4, which lies within streamC, all discovered in the halo of M31 from our CFHT/MegaCam survey.

Finding Stellar Streams in Photometric Surveys [PDF]
The advent of highâ€quality, wideâ€area photometric databases has enabled significant advances in our knowledge of the structure, constituents, and accretion history of our Galaxy. Matchedâ€filtering techniques allow us to map the spatial distributions of stellar populations with particular colorâ€magnitude characteristics.

Separatrix divergence of stellar streams in galactic potentials [PDF]
ABSTRACTFlattened axisymmetric galactic potentials are known to host minor orbit families surrounding orbits with commensurable frequencies. The behaviour of orbits that belong to these orbit families is fundamentally different than that of typical orbits with non-commensurable frequencies. We investigate the evolution of stellar streams on orbits near
